Wow. eek I can't imagine!

Unfortunately, I have no previous Sade concert experiences to compare this to.

Honestly.......I would not go if it were free.

Okay, now that we know that that the rest of us can go enjoy ourselves while you miss out... lol

At the Houston concert, during the Smooth Operator performance, the crowd got excited when the guitarist played his part. This guitarist was not a regular member of the band and at one point, Sade herself bowed down to the guitarist (in a manner to show respect). Upon closer inspection, we began to realize this "guitarist" was Carlos Santana. The hat, the mustache, and the distinct sound got the crowd revved up, but he left after that one song.

Are there any other Houstonians that can verify this?

If true that was amazing.

I've read the reviews from nearly every tour stop and the overwhelming consensus is that Sade is amazing. Finally had the opportunity to see for myself last Thursday in St. Louis. The group did not disappoint. Seriously, an incredible, focused, beautiful, performance. Sade (the person) looked gorgeous and her vocals were sublime, as was the band's performance.

The stage was simple and the lighting and use of videos was sophisticated and highlighed the music fantastically.

THIS is how it's done. This is real musicianship, real artistry. No hoopla. Very put-together, very classy. Well worth the money.

I had never seen Sade perform live and was surprised to see how well the intimate music translated to larger venues. Sade (again, the person), looks unreal for 52 and I have even more respect for her as a singer after seeing her live. She's not a vocal acrobat and her range isn't huge compared to some other historical singing greats. But, she's on her path. She knows exactly what her strenghts are and she executes with a wonderous, graceful precision And, she did get a chance to scale the heights a couple of times (Is it a Crime, Jezebel, Pearls). Finally, I should note that Sade (the band) is tight and on point and all are fantastic musicians in their own right. Some of Stuart Matthewman's sax solos had the crowd on its feet.

I highly recommend this tour. And, I would love to hear feedback from others who have experienced Sade this summer.

Thanks for your great review. I'm going to see her at the end of the month and can't wait! biggrin

I'm not a big merchandise buyer, but I did get one shirt each from a Sade show and a Prince show.

How was it musically?

lol Oh that was great too. Her band is super tight, she sounded just like her albums. She doesn't have the technically prettiest voice but she sounded strong and gave us the total Sade "vibe" She too cool for school and is stunning to look at. It was great to hear full, live versions of these songs I've loved since I was a kid. The guitar/sax player Stuart Matthewman is awesome. I don't know how I missed her last two tours.

This was my second time seeing her and the lady did not disappoint.

The show was absolutely superb...just over 2 hours. Her voice and graceful demeanor had us enthralled...my son nearly fell out of his seat when she came out in that white gown, shoeless of course.

I can't say enough about the band 'cause those guys really cook. Stuart Matthewman was outstanding.

Everything about it was classy and soulful. The visuals were extremely complimentary without distracting from the musical vibe.

The whole show was tight sonically and visually and worth every penny.

I'm seeing her in Dallas on the 24th. Cannot wait!! How was John Legend?

[Edited 7/11/11 20:49pm]

I missed some of John's set, but he did a really good job. He's got a great live voice and pretty decent stage presence. At one point he calls a girl up onstage to dance, and that's a real treat.

For me, though, his three backup singers stole the set. Very sexy sisters (one from Cleveland woot!) -- they definitely know how to throw those curves around, and they also sound fantastic.

[Edited 7/12/11 4:41am]

At our show he actually called an older lady up...it was so cute, lol

I really enjoyed his set moreso than the first time I saw him back in '05. He was a lot more engaging and confident.
