The baddest band in the land was on point once again tonight. I had so much fun. I think I've fallen in love with Stokley Lawd that man..he really knows how to work a crowd. He's so sexy but he's not even trying to be...lawd. Let me see if I can remember the playlist, though this isn't in order:
Can't Get Away
Caught My Eye
Nothing Left to Say
What Kind of Man Would I Be
I Want It
Walk On
So Fine
You Send Me Swinging
Pretty Brown Eyes
I'm probably missing about 2 more songs.
Nonetheless, the talent was in abundance...my gosh. I swear everytime I see them, all of their albums and I mean ALL of their albums are on my top playlists.

Wow they played 4 tracks from the new album. I'd love to hear how I Want It
sounds live. Was this part of the Budweiser fest with Jill Scott and Anthony Hamilton.
I will see MC with these guys in Charlotte Aug. 24. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint |

I've been in love with him since day ONE!! They always put on a great show. I just wish they would drop WKMSWIB and NLTS from the play list. They have soo many other songs I'd love to hear!! |

No this was part of Richmond VA's Summer concert series called "Friday's At Sunset". The concert had to be moved to our Landmark Theatre because of rain. It was actually better for it to be at the Landmark personally because the stage is much bigger than the stage they use at Kanawa Plaza (where the summer concert series is usually held outdoors). Gave Stokley enough room to run from one end of the stage to the other, doing his thang....
"I Want It" is one of my favorite songs off of "7" so I knew all the words..unfortuntely, with folks who hadn't heard the new album had no idea what the song was so some of the crowd sat down But I continued to shake my ass!!! Anywho it sounded great live. [Edited 7/9/11 7:12am] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

I'd rather them drop NLTS off the play list...but WKMWIB was pretty good, I've always liked that song. I really really was expecting them to do "Someone To Love"....that song always gives me chills down my spine. The words, the melody, the sound of the music and Stokley's vocals made that song perfect. I would love to hear him sing that one live.
The first time I saw them was in '05 at the same summer concert series and although I like the Mint back then, I only knew the usual songs "Pretty Brown Eyes", "What Kind of Man Would I Be", "You Send Me Swinging", etc. But they blew me away at that concert...and when I heard them perform "Forever In My Eyes"...I was like damn, where the hell have I been that I've never heard this song before? And that night and that next week I went searching buying all their albums and any live songs recorded and have been hooked ever since. I remember Stokley wore a see through black mesh shirt at that concert I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

I saw them back in March and just bought tix for the Budweiser Superfest where MC will tour with Jill Scott and Anthony Hamilton. Cain't wait!
And I usually go by myself and always enjoy them. They are truly awesome live. And watching that disaster called Rihanna last night makes me appreciate REAL musicians even more. [Edited 7/9/11 10:53am] |

"What Kind Of Man" is their 2nd biggest pop hit and thier biggest R&B hit in thier career. And NLTS is their biggest hit 2000-present. Aint no way they dropping them songs from thier set lol.
Although I agree with you, I would rather hear many other songs than 'NLTS' like Someone To Love, On & On, Forever In You Eyes, If You Love Me, Love Your Tears, This Day This Minute Right Now etc. |

Sounds like the same shirt he wore the first time I saw them live at the Vibe Music Festival in DisneyWorld back in '97. I gotta find pics of that.
That was an awesome music fest. You paid $20 to access Pleasure Island and could see all the acts on various stages. That's also the first time I saw Outkast soon after they came on the scene. |

Oh I remember another song they sung that I couldn't remember earlier:
"Look What You Done 2 Me" off of the "Livin' The Luxury Brown" album. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

Girl I usually go to the movies, to museums and dinner by myself too, but for some reason I was kind of iffy at first of going to this concert by myself. I mean all my friends are broke or aren't able to find babysitters. Then the guy I WAS talking to, I think he's a dud and so that's a no go. So I'm back to square one in the dating zoo...unfortunately So I thought to myself, why not just go by myself, who the hell cares? And I'm so glad that I did go and didn't miss out on Stokley's sexy...oops I mean and not miss out on hearing the baddest band in the land.
And I know the Mint has been out for 20 years, but damn I didn't even realize that Stokley is 43 now??!!! The man still looks the exact same as he did as when they first hit the scene. [Edited 7/9/11 17:08pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

Stokley is HIGH NRG fo sho! Everytime i see him I imagine he must be the Energizer Bunny in bed cuz he keeps going and going
I always have a blast at all the shows I go to by myself. Matter of fact most of the Prince shows I went to I went alone and I met SOOOO many people that I still keep in touch with and I met a lot of Orgers in person at those shows which led to me posting a whole lot more. Plus it's hard for most people to travel a lot JUST for a concert but I'll do it at the drop of a hat cuz live music is that important to me
It's hard having buster friends tho. |
