Will Beyonce ever be on Madonna's level? (Part 2) This thread is a direct sequel from one of my threads from March 2010: http://prince.org/msg/8/332654

Given that Beyonce's new album 4 is not selling well plus Madonna (with USA R&R Hall Of Famer status) is currently back in the studio for an upcoming new album of her own, I strongly believe now is the perfect opportunity to have a follow-up report on whether or not Beyonce will ever be on Madonna's level of success.
Has Beyonce finally failed to take Madonna's Queen Of Pop title OR is this only a slow start for what was suppose to be a successful mission? You make the call.

I wouldn't call myself a fan of either, but Madonna's music is light years ahead of anything Beyonce's ever done. The girl may be able to sing, but her material sucks monkey balls.

Beyonce is a 100 percent better singer then Madonna no doubt... but Madonna has way more interesting songs, Beyonce sticks to the same formula. She sings well i respect her for that, but she lies a lot about her music and produces so so results.
Madonna is not a great singer we all know, but songs like
Drowned World/Substitue For Love American Life Rain Bad Girl Promise To Try Nothing Fails Power Of Goodbye Like A Prayer Take A Bow You'll See Live To Tell Skin Gone Mother And Father
Are way more interesting, not to much way deeper then anything Beyonce and her ghost writers have come up with it. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Beyonce has more talent,
madonna has better songs
Not a fan of either,
I can't even say she should be on madonna's level, because should madonna be on the level she is on right now.
Beyonce hasn't even connected with people, and her music is so immature. She should be lucky to even be like the Donna Summers of this Generation.

Beyonce is a great pop artist for this era of music, but something is missing....
Madonna was always a more calculated risk taker and I think that is part of the appeal to why she has stayed relevant for so long and why she is where she is in the music world. There was never a controversy Madonna didn't court. Madonna always knew how to manipulate controversy to her advantage time and time again.
Beyonce, on the other hand, seems formulaic. She never takes risk (and Sasha Fierce doesn't count) and stays in a safe zone musically. Beyonce is Rihanna with better vocal ability, choreography, and overall talent. Beyonce won't tackle anything of substance for fear of alienating sponsors, fans, and the record execs.
WHen its all said and done, Beyonce will be the biggest act of this current generation, but that is not really saying a whole lot. Her career trajectory will be more along the line of Mariah Carey in terms of following, not Madonna.

Like it or not, to my generation she is going to be legendary. On a Madonna level? I don't know. But alot of people I went to highschool with were calling her the female Michael Jackson. 2012: The Queen Returns

Wow Took the words right out of my mouth. The highlights are mainly how I feel about her impediments. She'll have hits but she won't have the respect she so eagerly desires as a Barbra Streisand.
I think she has potential to earn the crown but she just doesn't have the nerve or the geniune artistic chops to get it. This new album is supposed to be her "Control" record so to speak but I hear more of the same formula. (Although Mathew might not have allowed, "Run the World (Girls) to leave the studio). She might have went about things differently with this project, but the end results appear to be the same.

Do you think any artist who's not white could become the "queen of pop" music or is whiteness a undisclosed prerequisite?

Beyonce songs are too formulaic. Further, she lacks emotional depth as an artist. She showed signs of maturity and growth on the debut album but it's been one routine anthemic song after another since. And words can't describe how much I detest her new release.

It's not happening and STFU with the race card BS. Michael Jackson is by far the most famous solo artist of all time and he is a black man.

I would say Rihanna is more like the new Madonna - even more so than Lady Ga Ga:
- They both can’t sing and dance - yet have critical and commercial success -But they have much better singles then their contempories with better voices (i.e. Beyonce and Whitney) -They have great style, videos and re-invent their look almost with every video. -They push the boundaries on what is tasteful and crass -They have hit after hit -They are hugely popular with white and black fans across the globe.
However -Madonna should be credited for her song writing from the beginning of her career - I'm not sure if Rihanna writes her own music.

When it comes to pop singers everbody says either they can't sing (Rihanna, Madonna) or they sing too loud (Beyonce, Christina). And I just flip my hair to that nonsense. 2012: The Queen Returns

Bingo!!!
Beyonce's biggest problem is she tries to be all things to all people. Very few artists have the chops to pull that off.
She is too caught up with being attempting to be an icon. Part of it is the media and the other part is Beyonce herself. Madonna, like it or not, will be the gold standard for female pop music in terms of crossover appeal and imagery. She probably did not create the blueprint, but damn sure, refined it. She always had the hunger to challenge herself.
There is a disconnect between Beyonce and the record buying public. Beyonce has yet to (in her over a decade of music )produce her Like a Virgin, her Thriller, her Purple Rain. Her albums include the prerequisite club bangers, ballads, girl empowerment anthem and lots of filler. Nothing is wrong with those per se, but she should challenge herself with the subject matter. There is a whole world of material around her, but she (or her producers) opt to go the safe route.
The other thing is she has not had that "moment' that resonates with the masses and becomes key to her true icon status. Think Madonna, Michael, Prince. They all had a moment in pop culture that made you say "Did you see that"? With Beyonce, as talented and beaustiful as she is, she comes across as a wall flower, and that is strange even with her being so visible in the media.
When she has that come to Jesus moment musically speaking and produces her masterpiece, she may break through to Madonna-esque levels, but until then, she will probably maintain the formula she has been using. Damn shame because she has it in her to be greater than she is. [Edited 7/6/11 10:25am] "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

Well that's the beauty of a discussion forum- if everyone had the same view it would be pretty dull in here.
I still think they can’t sing.

Around the Evita era Madonna took singing lessons and to me she sounds good on Evita & Ray Of Light
She's still not on Beyonce level of singing ability but still Madonna has had way deeper songs
Beyonce never did anything this good honestly. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Have any of you listen to Bey's albums other than her singles. How about this album? If you haven't, then I think debating Bey's musical catalogue is moot.
And I will say this: I prefer Bey's music over Madonna all day every day. Bey's vocal arrangements on 4>>>>>>>>>Madonna whole catalogue.

What?!
Who in the hell puts Madonna and Beyonce in the same box long enough to analyze them against each other?
Of all the singers, and all the other more logical comparisons and combinations that would make more sense, THIS is what someone came up?
Seems to me someone just wanted to create an active thread and used the 2 most outrageous names they could in context to each other in order to acheive that goal.
