Another word: Magnificent

He's the third largest part of my CD collection, Prince being number 1 ofcourse.

Dylan is on the top of my list of artists I need to see live before either one of us dies.

I often thought the concert Prince gave after 2002 are his version of Dylan's "Neverending Tour".

May I ask who is #2?

I finally saw Dylan last year. I can cross it off the list! lol

His voice is quite different now, and some of the big hits like Rolling Stone are not the highlights of the night.

But he still seems engaged and into the music. I was surprised to see him play more keyboard than guitar.

And the band is really good. Not the greatest concert I have ever seen, but definitely about what I expected and well worth it.

He changes the set-list every single night, and at age 70, his shows are not quite what they were even 19 years ago, when he was putting on some of the best performaces of his career still.

He stopped playing guitar on-stage for the most part in 2002 and switched to keys. No one was sure at the time whether it was a another one of Dylan's phases, or if it would stick. I've heard he's playing a bit of guitar again now, but for years he didn't play on stage at all. Did he play guitar when you saw him?

One rumour I heard is that Arthritis now prevents him from playing guitar for the most part, or playing for expended periods.

yeah he played guitar on a few songs, maybe 2

I would not be surprised if arthritis was a factor. Guitar is physically a difficult instrument to play.

Dylan and his voice was a huge inspiration/influence on Ian Hunter. Without Dylan to pave the way the world would likely have been deprived of Mott the Hoople. I don't even want to consider a world with no Mott. sad Therefore, Dylan's voice is A-OK by me. nod

#2 is Queen. Been that for a while, but as they no longer release any news records, and my Dylan collection is still growing he will pretty soon move into the #2 slot smile

Just read that he will come here October 20, with Mark Knopfler as support act (double headline would be better). So pretty soon I can cross two of my list smile.

Rather than create a new thread I figured I would just bump this one.

Does any agreement exist about what the best Dylan albums are circa 1978-pre Time Out of Mind? I've got all of the stuff from the '60s, selected bits from the '70s and most of the stuff from 1997-present but I'm not sure about the middle era. The highlights I've heard from this era on The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3 and Tell Tale Signs have been pretty impressive but most of the albums from that time have spotty reputations. Should I just dive in anywhere or are there some albums that stand out?

Yeah I love Dylan aswell, have a number of his records, I actually really like some his unheralded albums, "Empire Burlesque", "Oh Mercy". In fact i think "Street Legal" might be my favourite Album of all! there's some real killer songs on that one "Senior","Is Your Love in Vain","Where Are You Tonight", "Changing of The Guard", the over-production doesn't bother me, probably his most fun album to listen to for me.

We're here, might as well get into it.

"Other Side of the Mirror" is pretty good.
