That's B.S and I've heard it over and over. But think about it. All these guys advertising they're giving up ass?

Don't seem likely does it?

Why hasn't anyone bothered to simply ask guys with saggin pants if they're giving up ass?

No one said the people wearing it as fashion were advertising anything, but the origins of it and what it meant. The swastika is an ancient symbol and didn't originate with Nazi's. A long time ago "gay" meant happy and "faggot" was a bundle of sticks.

Yeah, when a Brit says he wants to smoke a fag it has a different meaning than if an American says it. razz

Oh, I learned about that one a few years ago. A coworker and I were walking up to a cafeteria on our lunch hour and I was smoking a cigarette. Brits are very rare in Mississippi and a guy walked up to me and said...."Excuse me. I'm sorry to bother you and I really hate to ask, but I'm just dying for a fag right now".....I was like.... eek My coworker said..."He wants one of your cigarettes". I fell out laughing and said...."I didn't know whether to cuss him out or take him in that restroom over there and give him a lunch hour to remember". lol

Honey, I would have made Mississippi live up to it's slogan "The Hospitality State". I would've gave that motherfucker something much better than a postcard with a damn Magnolia flower on it. lol

Never judge people on their music taste....would be pretty stupid.

Why would I judge someone's muscial taste? If they like their music, that's fine with me.....I enjoy mine.

i'm not 15 any more, where i had to convince people they should have my taste of music.

Nope. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Now, i am a self admitted music snob. So before i rant on, let's be clear about that.

So, you're trying to tell me that someone's taste in music has NOTHING to do with their personality? I beg to differ.

First of all, we're all human beings. We make judgments about people all the time. Based on all kinds of things. Looks, clothing, neighborhood, schooling, etc etc etc.

Now it's probably not the smartest thing to judge solely on any one thing.

For example, if someone you've just met tells you that they've done time in prison. Do not lie and say that you're not going to make SOME sort of judgement about that person depending on the crime they were incarcerated for. Most people will.

I live in NYC and see people get judged purely on looks alone on a daily basis.

Now with that being said, if music is one of the most important things in the world to me, why wouldn't I judge someone based on their musical tastes? I'm sorry but if i ask you who your all-time favorite artist is and you say "Lady Gaga" that tells me that we are not going to be friends, lovers or anything else for a myriad of reasons the primary being that tells me that there's no way in hell your as open minded and well rounded of a person that i require to even be in a conversation with me.

I'm sure some of you may think that's harsh and/or rash. I'd disagree.

I didn't ask this person who their favorite artist right now is, I asked their favorite of all time. If Lady Gaga is what comes out of their mouth it tells me that they probably haven't listened or been exposed to a lot of other music or culture. It also probably tells me without having to ask that they are much younger than me. It also tells me that this person is probably a trend follower and not a trend setter.

You see, I think you can tell a LOT about a person based solely on music taste.

I have boggled some of my friends minds by me being able to pick a stripper out of a 1000 people based solely on clothing, nails and taste in music.

So again, YES i am a music snob. Proud of it. And yes i will judge and/or not talk to you if your taste in music sucks. Now that's not to say i expect everyone to listen to and/or like what i like. Clear enough??

[Edited 7/6/11 13:09pm]

How can it be wrong what I wrote? It's the way I look at it, you look at it differently than I do, there's no wrong or right.

And yes, someone taste in music has nothing to do with their personality. My friends all have very different taste in music, but they are my friends, because they are funny, they care for me, I can talk with them about problems....do you really think it would make a difference that one of them listens to Lady Gaga and the other one listens to classical music? Please....are you're talking about being open minded??? If you judge people on their music taste you're very small minded.

By the way, i didn't say i don't judge people, we all do, i was only talking about music taste.

Clear enough?

Or did you go through the motions of typing it to feel absolutely nothing at all, and then spent the energy to come back to the thread for what reason exactly? lol

Although I think I'm sticking with Mickey's much more humorous explanation, i did some research and found him to be 1/2 right. It did originate in prison, but was more a result of inmates not being allowed to wear belts than any sort of sexual connotation.

But I'm still sticking with Mickey on this one! I'll go where the laughs are!

I only "judge" people who refuse to listen to a certain genre of music without even giving it a chance.

And I'm in no position to judge anyone. As much music as I love and consume, my knowledge measures about three buckets worth of seawater. There's no way I can know or appreciate it all. Being an Orger for 8 years has really brought that home for me.

Music is a universal language. The more you know, the more you can relate to people in general. When I ask someone about what type of music they like, it's a chance to get them to talk about what they listened to when they were kids, where they were or what they were doing when they heard "that song," or what "that album" or "that song" meant to them. And I can do the same. I've bonded with the unlikeliest of people over music and I'm sure they'd say the same about me.

Sure, I'll criticize/debate music tastes or judgments on any given day, but why use knowledge of music to judge when you can use it to connect?

I don't. I might have done that a couple of years ago, but I don't. I look at it like this, people like what they like and sometimes, who have a wide range of music likes. As long as they can explain why they like a certain artist, then I am cool with that.

Actually, I find myself hating "musical snobs" these days. Because they think that they listen to certain genre, they are superior. I am not here for that. As far as I am concerned, people are allowed to like what they like and as I said, if they can explain why they like it, it might open my mind to that entertainer's music.
