My New "Appreciation" For Beyonce

I've always thought Beyonce was overrated. Some agree, some don't agree. But lately, I've been having a change of heart about her. Sure, there are faults in her "public" character, but I think I've been missing the big picture. Beyonce is one of the few artist today that has gotten by very well off of her looks & talent alone. She doesn't have a sextape out [I wish she did though lol ], or nude photos [Another wish of mine]. She's hasn't worn a "Meat Dress" or been arrested for drugs or stealing, or had her ass beat by her boyfriend, no ass cheek implants, & sex book. I'm happy that [thus far] she hasn't played into those roles. She actually can sing [not as good as others, but not as bad as most]. It also seems as if she has [some] morals as well. If I had a daughter, I wouldn't be that mad if she was a Beyonce fan [Better B than a bunch of (Very Blunt) lyrics talking about sucking dick, taking it in the ass, killing people, etc]. She also helps people too [foundations, etc.] Of course, I've heard a little profanity in her lyrics here & there {MJ had some in his lyrics too}. So, what I'm saying is, we just might need a Beyonce today.

...I'm pretty sure if she gets desperate, she might do everything I just said she hasn't, But that's yet to be seen.... lol

....Your Thoughts?

You actually have a point.

I could never get into her music because I just can't relate to her lyrical content, but at least she's actually known for doing something and having actual talent, and there's no scandals attached to her.

So while I'll probably never be a fan, I do think she's deserving of a certain amount of respect.

Not so sure. To say she is needed simply because she sucks less than others is kinda like elevating a pile of shit because you didn't step in it. Sure, clean shoes are nice, but that's still a pile of shit.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I have a new appreciation for her too. Previously, at best I was "OK" with Beyonce...but was never in love with her, nor could I call myself a fan. But words can't express how much I appreciate that she didn't go glam, or electro, or dance pop with this album -- with a bunch of computer generated beats, erratic tempos, weird and pandering sociopolitical messages. It would have been too easy for her to sell out like Usher/JLo, and grab will.I.am for the sake of appealing to the same dorks who like Gaga, Britney, Rihanna and Katy...but she remember her actual fanbase and put out a classy, throwback, feel good album that's perfect for a Sunday afternoon drive. I really hope Beyonce avoiding the current scene marks the beginning of the crack in electro/dancepop.

Beyonce provides a needed balance imho that we don't have in today's Pop music. Think about it, Prince & MJ balanced each other out.....

If Beyonce is MJ, who is Prince?

I think it's more divided along the lines of mainstream popular artists in one group, and other, less well known acts in another one.

All the other artists I've seen mentioned in this thread so far, I think are in the same group as Beyonce, but Beyonce is at the top of the list, she's like the top young pop/rnb diva.

Then there's a separate group that artists like Fiona Apple and others belong to. Some signed to majors, some not, but they don't really do mainstream pop and they're more musicians in the traditional sense.

I would say Lady GaGa/other types. I feel that they play into the more controversial/Sexual stuff like Prince did....Beyonce is more family friendly imo. Of course I'm not talking about their music or legacy by any means, I'm only referring to the angles they play. Lady GaGa is more Madonna, but you could say Madonna was more in the "Prince" area than the "MJ" area in terms of the sexual/Controversial stuff [Of course I'm not referring to the sexual abuse stuff MJ later had to deal with]....

It's a lot of pop artist music that sucks though, So she's not alone in that boat whatsoever. I'm not saying I'm some uber fan of her music all of a sudden, but I respect that it's more about the music then all the other dumb shit people do to get famous now days. If you don't like her music, fine lol , it's no sweat off my back. But I do have respect for her now [Never did before]. If we're only saying her music sucks, that's a good thing. Instead of, I hope she gets jail time, or help for her crack addiction or something like that.... lol

Her new album is worthless. In these days of substandard pop, if she's the "best" the industry has to offer I fear for the future.

I am sorry but I just have to disagree with this. While I respect the thread starters opinion I disagree with it.

People act like Beyonce is the ONLY artist out today not in scandels or surrounded by controversial when their are plenty of artists the same that put out much BETTER music and are FAR more talented. I am really just tired of it.

Also, I dont see how Beyonce isnt selling a gimmick/antics when she DOES. Selling sex, parading around on stage popping her coochi but yet she is suppose to be "family friendly" to some confused

I dunno but to me there is irony there on her part and fans part as well as a contradiction.

I think it is good that she has manage to not be as controversial as some EVEN though there have been some aspects about her music career that has been debatable ex. songwriter etc..

HOWEVER, she isnt the ONLY artist or the blue print for this. She also technically sells sex etc as well as her music so she does sell a product even though she has some singing ability.

To me, she is no different than Rihanna except for she can sing. I dont see why she should be excuse because of her vocal ability which isnt really all of that neither. But see I understand where it all comes from. Beyonce is mainstream and wants to be a pop act. She runs after the accolades and wanting to be a "legend"w hich seems to be the only thing she cares about and not putting out good material. Forgetting that what makes an Icon/legend is not their popularity or movie deals but the MUSIC....

I think Jill Scott and Erykah Badu are FARRRRR more talented, have better music and are MUCH more entertaining live... but I guess everyone has their own opinion. They are also family friendly as well and dont have to sell sex and extra shit that doesnt have anything to do with music.

I dunno I just cant appreciate an artist who makes really bad music regardless of vocal talent or how clean of an image they have.. NONE of those things has to do with MUSIC.

Didn't Badu do a video walking butt nekkid down the street though? Anywho, If you noticed, I never even really mentioned her music, because in pop music today, "music" seems to play second fiddle to looks & controversy. I'm happy that Beyonce doesn't do the controversial stuff. I already mentioned there are more talented people then her, but she's bigger than they are. She's apart of a bigger machine than they are. Real Talent rarely sells big now days anyways. Being Sexy is a little different from being slutty imo, like a lot of pop stars seem to act today. I respect that aspect of Beyonce. She's sexy, but not slutty. If a little girl looks up to Beyonce, instead of Nicki Minaj, Lil Kim, Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Rihanna, etc. [from an image aspect] I'm not that mad at that. The whole "icon/legend" shit....eh, that's debatable. But my only point is this, I'm happy to see that someone doesn't have to stoop to the levels that celebs do today to keep their names in the news....

In that Erykah Badu Window Seat music video that you are talking about the point of that video was freedom of speech... In stripping naked she was not trying to exploit her body but instead proving a point through art which is VERY different from stripping naked on a pole. Also, Badu hasnt based her ENTIRE career on selling a sexy image above her music so I dont know what point you were trying to make in bringing that up. They are both obviously two different artists. Well one is an artist and one is just a mainstream product.

OKAY, now you can appreciate her clean image or whatever but to say Beyonce has not dressed or acted slutty and saying her appeal is different from Rihanna is ridiculous. Rihnna sells sex and while her image is edgy and more bad girl than Beyonce to me they both parade around like sluts dress like sluts. I just dont see the point you are getting at. Ive seen photos of Beyonce and seen her attire when she performs and it screams slut slut slut tryinggg tooo hard when she doesnt has to. Even in her most recent performance when she covered that Prince song. Did you see what she had on? confused Just gross but yet some call her family friendly and she has her vagina hanging all out. Yes there is a different from sexy and being slutty. Once again I think Jill Scott is a beauitful woman and she stills looks good without exploting her body and putting it on display BEFORE her music... c'mon now.

This is OBVIOUSLY apart of Beyonce's marketing and a BIG part in why she has been so successful also with her image etc... she wants to SELL sex and exploit her body to do it. If she didnt want to then she wouldnt be parading on stage like she does and she would wear more clothes its just that simple. It doesnt take no rocket science to see that. Female singers today feel they have to sell sex and like a horror in order to get some where.... its sad. I am 19 years old and I wouldnt want nobody as a role model like that just nasty

Yea I guess so lol when you have been acting like a child with most of your arguement and all your points I proved wrong. This last remark really takes the cake though lol I just thought I bring in a little common sense and truth in this thread but as always when nobody cant back their arguement up they revert to immaturity smh.

I brought the age up to prove a point. Contrary to popular opinion that image doesnt appeal to all teenagers/kids. I find someone like Jill Scott more inspiring as well as her music. I dont walk around parading my body on display and trying to be sexy, so why would I look up to someone who does that?. Also, someone who obviously cares more about money/ popularity then creating good music?

If you are sexy than people will see that, you dont have to be revealing to get attention, how you carry yourself is most important anyway.. brains over beauty which in the end makes you beautiful, you heart... thats something my momma taught me I dont need to look up to Beyonce or these mainstream products to learn something, thanks. Beyonce is a mainstream product who sells sex. Conversation over. Peace.

What exactly was the insult for? I never said anything negative to you, but I'm a child? Wow, we can't agree to disagree? This is why I won't continue this "difference of Opinions" [This was not an argument thread]..there is no right or wrong answer to this thread, which shows your immaturity.....your not going to change my opinion. Your going to feel how you feel, & I'm going to feel how I feel...it's that simple. If I came off a certain way, my apologies.

If you are sexy than people will see that... thats something my momma taught me I dont need to look up to Beyonce or these mainstream products to learn something, thanks.

LOL Hun are you that oblivious to what you just said and ur ignorant behavior???

Your the one that basically threw my arguement out because of my age, so you tell me who is immature? That post was simply a reaction to what YOU SAID. I am not in here to argue or to change anything. I came out saying I respected your view but I disagreed with it and expressed why. Now you are the one that simply has to accept and respect others and not act childish because you disagree its just music.

Honestly, I'm sorry if you were thinking that I'm not respecting your opinion. I totally see your point. I brought up your age because you did, which is the main issue with us going back & forth. I'm older, so pretty much that's why I wanted to end it. There was nothing else to my reason but that.... coke ?
