the basics of music downloading ... Is there a good website to go to ... where one can learn about file sharing or downloading ...
I gotta admit ... i am so NOT into downloading music. One time i downloaded an album (it was by an artist who had his own website) and i had it on my computer ... however I never really burned a CD with the album ... and it eventually did get onto my MP3 player ... but ... lol ... i never could figure out how to use the MP3 player !
I am so NOT a geek.
Yet , I am sure if i just figure it out ... ugh .
About 8 yrs ago I downloaded Limewire basic ... and tried to figure it out .... oh I did get some music ... but ... I think that computer got alot of other "things" on it ... and I never really made a cd ... etc ... I always said I would like to figure it out ... but ... I also have said I would just rather go to a music store and buy a cd ... and have the cute printed outside cover etc ...
so anyone have any advice ... i KNOW this is a dangerous discussion perhaps ... but I just would like some basic places to start learning ... Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

Just type in any question you have regarding this into Google.
Youtube also has a host of quick tutorial vids on this kind of subject.

I just use google. I used to use P2P i.e. Soulseek, Napster, Limewire, Kazaa, and etc., bit torrent (still do sometimes), mp3 sites, but now I just do a simple google search. Some things are really hard to find though. For that I have to do some super sleuthing.
If I were you I would take a trip down to Lifehacker. It's a good website to have in your bookmarks.

I am not advocating this at all. However, the program Audacity can be used to capture and edit music played through your pc. For example somebody may record audio from Youtube, then edit to get a soundbite.
There are tutorials out there.
In my opinion, the best method of getting the music you want is to subscribe to a streaming service that can access from multiple devices (laptop, tablet, pc, mobile, etc). The service should have a low yearly fee and the ability to create and share playlists.
Personally, I like Grooveshark. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Another thing is, make sure your pc has a quality virus protection program, then if you decide to go the torrent route and other illegality you won't arse your computer with bugs.

Find the torrent with the most leechers and read the comments.

Why?

Usually if there is a virus, people will let you know in the comments. If there is a lot of leechers, then the torrent is good to go. Using this method, as well as joining a few specific bit torrent communities, I have never gotten any viruses or anything, ever.

You should really be buying the music.

I use torrent sites every single day and I have never seen a comment about a a virus.
And it's the other way round, if a torrent has a lot of seeders then it usually denotes a healthy torrent. I have been downloading for years, almost on a daily (if not weekly basis) using various methods and I have never had a virus from doing so.

Sure, I agree, but there is a ton of unreleased music and video as i'm sure you are aware, and a lot of people want that music and video too as well as the legal stuff.

Plus there is a good deal of music that you can't buy legally. Lots of stuff never made the transition from vinyl to cd.

Indeed, yes. | |
