Lil B - I'm Gay (I'm Happy)

The most controversial figure in the hiphop world has released his magnum opus: I'M GAY

I'm not a fan of Lil B's music but I decided to check this out and was pleasantly surprised. I have heard a few other BasedGod tracks that stray from his usual themes, so it wasn't completely out of character, but I didn't expect a full serving of realness.

His delivery is weak at times and his thoughts aren't always efficiently structured but he drops plenty of jewels here.

"Mental slavery, niggas be hanging off the trees in the woods- like the hood. It's more than Martin Luther King fighting for a dream. Watch me go against everything you believe. No disrespect, Just trying to spark your dreams. Everybody knows its easy to fail but it's harder to think. Think Twice"

Bars like those are found throughout the album. At times it sounds like free form poetry due to the lack of strict rhyme structure.

The beats are top notch and are good enough on their own to warrant a listen.

I'd give it a 7/10.

There is something disturbing to me about using a title like that to get attention, announce that he's getting death threats and explain it to mean that he is happy all the while ignoring the politics that gave him the attention. How could he completely ignore the elephant in the room? If he really went " against everything you believe" maybe he would speak up about the discrimination he underwent just barely associating himself with the LGBT community.

He's straight, but I see what's he's doing. He's going against the trend of homophobia in hip-hop, basically saying that words are just that - words, and people shouldn't trip on words on their own unless there is a hateful negative intent behind them.

Props for forcing hip-hop to at least think about the issue. Not my cup of tea but I am not gonna hate on him for what he is doing.

I will give him kudoes for that, if he is straight. Homophobia in rap and hip-hop NEEDS to be "outed!"

He's made some dumb songs, and I mean really dumb songs, but none of them are on this current record "I'm Gay."
