I've always loved the randomness of that photo. Mike evidently about to go... show jumping, or something. I used to quite like this album, I've not really listened to it for a while, though.

Wow. My collection would look so poor next to yours. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

I think Michael was just too nice to say he did not want to be in the Jacksons anymore. Why did he not do a Thriller tour? It makes absolutely no sense.
You can see in This is It, when they start doing the old Jacksons segment, the sound is bothering him, but he seems really irritated too. I wonder if the old music took him back to a place where he was not happy. My Legacy

He didn't want to do the Victory tour. From what I've read in bios, His brothers & parents guilted him into doing the tour.
Once he committed to it, he thought at least it would make his family members enough money so they wouldn't bug him for any. Hey...

Yeah! I had the same experience with Bad.... since Another part of me turned me on to that album and was my favourite I recorded side B first on the cassette... so that album for me started with APOM and ended with Just got friends... of course I put Leave me alone on the cassette on the end, so that was it for me!
As for Victory! I quite like that album and it's a shame it wasn't more successful, especially coming after Thriller... my faves are Torture, State of shock, One more chance and Be not always. Also Wait and Hurt are pretty cool! Heck, there is no song that is really bad. I don't listen to it every day, but I pull it out from time to time. It is a bit dated though, but that's not really a bad thing. And yeah, love that cover.

Because he's not. Why would people think that anyway? Many people thought Boy George was straight. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

dag: yeah it was really big before his death too anyways, but whatever new they were selling, I would buy too, and now I'm finding old LP's again though I hadn't looked in years, it's like a treasure hunt looking for record stores, stores popular for DJ's, and vintage stores in urban cities to find these type of items. Not sure where you're from, but I could imagine places like NYC and LA having that too if you look carefully. I got most during a time I didn't order online, the old fashioned way, but I got to order some online as well when I saw they were available. Anyways, how much you have or don't have doesn't make you a better fan than the next, I just have a weakness for buying everything when it comes to having interests. If I like a book series, I have to own every single book, if I love an artist, I have to get everything, you name it.
I like Janet's One More Chance better, it gives me chills. I put on Randy to compare and then felt bad in the middle of it cause he sounds so sweet in it, though I prefer the 90's version

There are no music stores in our little town. There are just few stores in bigger cities, but not many vintage stores that I know of, so it is hard to buy stuff over here. Especially such rarities. But I am not that type of fan. I don't need to have everything. For example, I don't feel like buying singles if all there is are just remixes done by others. I am not into remixes so I don't feel the need to own them, or some hits collections if there are only already released songs. I am trying to complete my J5 collections though. I don't have a lot of their stuff - actually hardly any, so I am trying to get that, but usually I have to order them from Amazon cause they don't have the stuff over here. Michael didn't want to tour PERIOD in '83-84 "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

patrick: I was raised on 80's and watching those things well into the 90's, so the "gayness" you speak of didn't make me raise eyebrows and it's like watching adults act goofy and close without it meaning anything. I think people acted like that in general too in those days, and now people are quicker to give things a label. The other day , someone posted Rod Stewart's Baby Jane, and it was GAY! I don't remember the way they're dancing around standing out to me back then, but I noticed it now, and I love it cause they're so carefree and it's good music and people produce beter music when they aren't so uptight
dag: yeah get the j5 albums, they're good, I found them at HMV years ago when they were rereleased, but amazon will also have them. As for the remixes, I honestly think that though MJ has some really nice ones and I collect those too, he's not my favourite remix artist. His final product on the albums are so good and they are perfection that if anyone tampers with those songs, they are not living up to the original product and it's like tampering with a work of art that took ages to finish. There are exceptions of course though, like I love the HIStory remix on BOTDF better than HIStory, and though this is not a popular opinion, I like this one eletropop remix of Butterflies better than the original cause of the DSTYGE sample. But yeah, I love accapella's and extended instrumentals and versions of his tracks. I think Janet has the best remixes ever to her singles and they are nice alternatives to her originals.
bboy83: If he didn't, he was probably afraid of overexposure, like what he said in Moonwalk about not wanting to host the American Music Awards in 85 when they asked him, and not being fond of doing TV specials.

After looking at those pictures, I must say the Jackson Men are so hot! I mean wow. I forget sometimes how handsome they were especially Mj and Jermaine. I don't know why someone would tell Mj he was ugly because he wasn't

I remember WAITING for this album to come out. I was 14 and a HUGE fan of MJ/Jacksons/Jackson 5. From Destiny to Thriller, they could do no wrong to my ears. I had my dad drive me to Rose Records in Chicago the day it came out...bought the cassette...played in the car on the way home...and was HUGLY disappointed. I actually liked State of Shock and was prepared for greatness...but wow...I wasn't ready fo that being the only song I dug. By the end of 84, not only was Victory forgotten, but Prince won me over for good with Purple Rain, and the rest is history.
