I actually liked a few songs on that release, though.
Everybody was trying to go gangsta, thug, and roughneck from 92 onward. Even The Boys...The Boys...came out in bandanas, leather, and boots for their 1992 release.
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Like this?
You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
Oh my Lord, I knew this existed. I no longer feel crazy.
But now I can't stop laughing hysterically at the jiggly crotch in the man panties. It's like I'm a kid all over again, 'cause I rolled on the floor laughing at this fool back then!

DON'T 4GET OUR BOY,PRINCE, WITH "MY NAME IS PRINCE"

Let's Get It Started & The Funky Headhunter are THE best albums in Hammer's entire music career.
Please Hammer Don't Hurt'em is OK, even though it was a crossover dance-pop success. 2 Legit 2 Quit is overrated, overproduced, and .
I agree @ Funky Headhunter.
In historical context? HUGE FAIL....but it's got jams, I'm sorry. Loved it then (in spite of the hip-hop cultual msicue that it was....UGH....Hammer.....wtf?)..and still spin it today.

Actually it would be Gangster Glam, Call The Law, or even Bob George.

I'd still listen to "Pumps and a Bump", too.
With headphones on.
...And I wouldn't tell anybody.
"I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

I WOULD.....Hammer did things for Hip-Hop that were unprecedented. The 200+ dancers onstage & the financial debacle that ensued aside, he made some pretty decent jamz.......and propelled the genre to things (at the time) considered impossible.
"Funky Headhunter" is a good album (maybe his best)...and Hammer is NOT given enough credit for his contributions as an artist.....and frankly....as a human being (he's broke today because he was too good hearted).
The look for "The Funky Headhunter" was "hardcore", but for those who actually listened to the album, lyrically, he was the same Hammer. He was still dancing too. It's a good album. When you think about it, every major artist changed their style once the "G-funk" era took off. Rappers were not supposed to reach the heights that Hammer reached, and a lot of them resented that. The backlash would've been justified if he still stuck to the parachute pants & shoulder pads, imo.

But how exactly is he broke? See in my opinion, he's not actually broke...just not a millionaire. Last I saw he's living pretty good in I guess I would consider a middle class type or a little higher, but he's definitely not in public housing. And yes part of his downfall, apart from his overspending on frivilous items, was being too good hearted in trying to employ EVERYONE he knew from the hood. I do get that he wanted to help, as good people do like to help those who may not have the opportunties that they have, but the saying is true, you can't help everybody.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
Yah...he aint "BROKE" broke.....but he did lose a fuck-ton of money on solid gold toilet seats & employing anyone who ever said "Hi, Hammer" to him
He's still a millionaire but he ain't bringing money like that anymore. In a way he was smart because he made sure he made earnings on his contract and he still gets royalties from "Can't Touch This" so I think he's good but trust definitely cost him TOO MUCH MONEY.

He lives in Tracy, CA now. My brother and cousin were aquaintances of Hammer's daughter back in '04 and he and his family live comfortably
