MySpace Sold For $35M, Timberlake Key Investor

[img:$uid]http://i.imgur.com/kOzqY.png[/img:$uid]

June 29, 2011

MySpace was sold today for $35 million to the largely unknown advertising network Specific Media, but as it turns out, the ownership stake in the company will go to a household name: Pop icon and movie star Justin Timberlake.

Timberlake and Specific Media have plans to refocus the MySpace brand on entertainment, with original music, videos and programming. "There’s a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect. MySpace has the potential to be that place,” Timberlake said in a statement. "Art is inspired by people and vice versa, so there’s a natural social component to entertainment."

There is some degree of irony in Timberlake taking over MySpace. Last year the singer starred as tech entrepreneur Sean Parker in The Social Network, the hit film which told the origin story of Facebook, the site that supplanted MySpace as the dominant social media empire.

Theirspace needs to get rid of that 3.0 look and go back to the original design.

If he actually bought MySpace, a site that is pretty much over and dead now, for that kinda money, he's even stupider than he looks.

He fucking sucks. I don't even care if he puts out another album. He needs to go off somewhere and just play with his balls or something.

Lots of gloom and doom predictions, but with Timberlake as its new face, MySpace is in a rebranding position and can use today's publicity to establish a new foothold in the marketplace.

That’s fine and that’s your opinion there are people who want to hear him make a new album you are not forced to listen.

Exactly.

And I never said everybody else had to share my views, that's some shit YOU read into what I said for whatever reason.

And conversely, just like you said, just because YOU dig him and want to hear him, doesn't mean everybody else has to/wants to.

You creepy-ass Justin Stans, kill me. lol

What, do you think that if you start enough cyber-fights over him, you'll meet him one day and fuck you or something?

Isn't he fucking an Olsen twin?

Go the fuck away.

When they got rid of Tom, there was a bunch of changes that were made to the site that users didn't want. Like you can't design your own page anymore, other features were deleted or changed in a way that was confusing and/or slow, etc.

He was either fired or bought out according to which story you go by. I think Rupert Murdoch is in charge of it now.

Sounds like its going to go more after You Tube than Facebook. If they dont put commercials at the beginning of every video like You Tube it may just work.

Could be a really good reboot if done right.

I had to be my own myspace friends. But only because I needed neighbours on Yoville. I hope he doesn't put the icons and ads on it that facebook has. Although it would be good if we had the same gift request features and factory bonuses.

Murdoch suffered a staggering net loss considering he paid $580M for MySpace in 2005, and unloaded it yesterday for a paltry $35M. What's that expression? Oh, yeah, "It couldn't have happened to a nicer person".

Ads are a possibility my friend. In other words, stick with YouTube. MySpace took over IMEEM so I'm still mad with them about that.

Take in consideration that unlike Facebook, MySpace was never secretly co-owned by the CIA, hence why some people maintain a MySpace account.

I hear talk of this MySpace redux involving MUSIC heavilly......which could get "interesting" given the current climate....

Icloud launch (and likely subscription model to follow)

Rhapsody launch of new cloud platform

Spotify Stateside.....(who KNOWS what'll go down)

Jussyin....could be a playa in ought 12 or so.... hmmm
