Eminem Gets Oscar Nom!?!

From Yahoo Entertainment News... read on:

And here's a phrase we never thought we'd write: Eminem (news - web sites) picked up his first Oscar nomination, as a songwriter, for "Lose Yourself" from his 8 Mile soundtrack. He's up against a couple of rock icons--U2 ("The Hands That Built America," Gangs of New York), Paul Simon (news) ("Father and Daughter," The Wild Thornberrys Movie)--as well as the Broadway team of John Kander and Fred Ebb, who picked up a nod for their tacked-on Chicago song "I Move On." Rounding out the Best Song category is the tune "Burn It Blue," from Frida.

I was suprised to see Em's name nominated...and happy for him IMO...but my vote is Caetano Veloso/Lila Down's BEAUTIFUL duet "Burn It Blue" from my own persoanl BEST PICTURE of the year...

FRIDA!!!

Castano is an amazing artist from Brazil and Lila Downs...well...I cant say enough about her and I'm not going to start!!! I'm too tired and sleepy smile

Cuz of their Golden Globe win...U2 probably has an 'edge' on the others.....plus they've become such a media darling beyond belief post 9/11.....though I love U2...I've taken a hiatus from them for a while.....

peace

I think it is a great song for a good movies, the message is positive, I like the lyrics:

'his arms are heavy
his palms are sweaty
there's vomit on his sweater already
mom's spaghetti'

He gets my vote!

Lose Yourself is emotionally driven, and I always turn the volume up for this one.

I gotta give props to Em, he has written a song that captured the film's drive and effort 2 succeed. The story was semi-autobiographical, and the song was a great indication of what it was like trying 2 break in2 the rap genre...

...and, isn't that what the noms r 4? R they not supposed 2 at least b somewhat involved in the STORY of the movie? I hate it when songs that have nothing 2 do with the plot r nominated and win.

(ps. Hi Christopher! biggrin wave )

Sorry, Frida's song will win.

You actually think Eminem will win best song at the Oscars when the Grammy's won't even give him Album of the year? Steely Dan? Are you kidding me?

That's usually the case, but not set in stone.

The year the creators of South Park were nominated 4 the song "Blame Canada", Robin Williams sang the song...(still, it was funny when he said the lyric, "...and that bitch Anne Murray") lol

In the past, they'd have some lame contemporary singer singing all the nominees songs in a medly type format... now, they actually have the nominee sing it... go figure!

Still, I will look forward 2 Eminem singing/rappin' his song... it'll, no doubt, b a highlight of the evening!

I would rather see Em win than some sappy disney song or Randy Newman for the 100th time or God forbid Madonna. At least Em's song has meaning and guts. Most of the time, the Oscar noms for songs are such crap. Once in a while they nominate something good like Bob Dylan and now Em. I don't love Em's music, but you gotta admit he's not sappy and he's definitely interesting.

You better lose your yourself in the music, the moment, you own it, you better never let it go (whoa) You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow, cuz opportunity comes once in a lifetime.

I don't like the Cats Work that much aside from a Few Songs that have as much to do with DRE's Asscociation, but I Know He is on the Pulse of the Ears out here now so more Power to Him if He wins.I Still say Babyface should have Won at least one for A Film Song IMHO.

Your sentence structure is deplorable but I agree with you completely.
