Watched it tonight and was impressed. Always loved him. Saw him at the Fresh Fest last year in Chicago. He can still move.
I liked what he said about not using 'bitches & hoes' in his lyrics 'cause his mama didn't raise him like that. And I didn't know he started Jay-Z's career. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

Speaking as someone who was never a fan of his back in the day, I thought he came off pretty well. I had to laugh out loud at the story Roxanne Shante told about her aunt explaining why he had "Big" in his name when he didn't look so physically imposing. "Look at his feet!"

Learned a few things....
Didn't realize Kane came from David Carradine's character from the television series, "Kung Fu". Never made the connection.
Didn't know he was ghostwriting for most of those cats on Cold Chillin records. I was young and didn't know any better and assumed everybody wrote their own stuff.

was not a fan of Kane before the show.......but I dig his story.

Thanks for this. I learned quite a bit. Apart from his sleeping around, he seems like one of the most mature and intelligent rappers I have heard from over the years.

They should've mentioned how he (and Heavy D and the Boyz) were the first rappers to dance prior to the arrival of MC Hammer lol

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer.

He didn't have no real drama but I liked it. No one really talked about Big Daddy Kane so it was nice to see him tell his story.

I wonder how many kids he has? They left that subject alone.....

Where y'all been? I knew that shit since like 2001 lol BDK is definitely one of the major reasons (besides Jaz-O and BIG) for the existence of Jay-Z.

Many don't even remember that cat. Hell, I forget about him too sometimes. Maybe he's chillin with Hawaiian Sophie

I noticed that!
They showed the one son. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

I'll bet their are MORE. Kane was throwing down on the regular.

I also just Googled because I was trying to remember if HE was the one who had the HIV/AIDS rumor... They didn't go there either. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Not really. He's still doing music in New York, just independently.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes he was the victim of that rumor at a time when plenty of them were running rampant among entertainers. Kane's response was his hit I Get the Job done. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Kane is my personal fave, so I guess I got my wish. Unsung can now return to regular non-rapp programming.

Lyrically Kane was the only MC on par with the two best from that era and of all time IMO, Rakim & KRS-One. He was like a boxer with those metaphors, stickin' and movin', I used to have to rewind my cassettes and spin back my vinyl just to catch all that Kane was saying in a verse.
It was so true when they said that Kane was the only MC back in that era that everybody liked, the hardcore rap heads, the causals, and especially the ladies were all his fans. He was the only MC who had it like that for the short period of time in the late 80's and most of 1990 but after he dropped "Taste of Chocolate" it all started changing, I started seeing some of the same hate for him that the most hated MC of that era, LL Cool J got. It took LL dropping the "Momma Said Knock You Out" album to shut people up. unfortunately Kane never recovered from 'Prince Of Darkness" and that playgirl shit .

He was smooth alright, And fine too,
When BDK was out I actually used to like a lot of rap music and it was good to see him on Unsung. I had no idea he was still touring and recording...I might check out his new cd.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

That is really intersting. I remember thinking that his peers really seemed to respect him as I was watching this hip honors clip a few months ago http://www.youtube.com/wa...xsiTzBHQZg Is there a present day rapper who garners that sort of respect/support?

This was a decent episode, not much drama, though I too wondered about how many "baby Kanes" are out there. He seemed to take pride in his past womanizing His wife must be thrilled about that ~Using the Fat Albert emoticon 'cause no one else is... ~

I wondered how many of those past groupies featured in the episode are now wifes or mothers who children might have been watching it and recognize Mom.
