Universal Music has confirmed it will handle the stateside release of the debut album by Mick Jagger’s new supergroup, SuperHeavy.

A&M Records will release the album in the rest of the world. The yet-to-be-titled disc will be available sometime in September, and the first single is titled “Miracle Worker.”

SuperHeavy sprang from an idea Jagger and Eurythmics founder Dave Stewart had to form a band culled from a variety of genres. In addition to Jagger and Stewart, the group consists of singer Joss Stone, reggae artist Damian Marley, and Indian composer A.R. Rahman. Marley’s rhythm section – bassist Shiah Coore and drummer Courtney Diedrick – are on-board as well.

The group reportedly wrote 22 songs during their first six days together. Most of the tracks for the album were cut in Los Angeles during a three-week period earlier this year. The band name, SuperHeavy, was inspired by Muhammad Ali.

Now that's very funny. I was going to add a remark about 732, but I'm laughing too hard to. I will say, both seem to be very cool. I look forward to the music.

I love that time and time again Stewart has proven to be just as incredible as Annie Lennox.

The name refers to the collective weight of wheelchairs and oxygen tanks needed to keep Jagger going. At least until he breaks another hip.

Yes indeed!!

Dave Stewart is one of the must under-valued pop/rock figure of the last 30 years, in my view. An incredible songwriter/producer/musician who has done absolutely tremendous work with Eurythmics, his solo career, and with many other artists.

He is about to release a new solo album too, and I'm very psyched for it, as well as the Superheavy project.

Probably; but I think I read that Keith is working on putting a new Xpensive Winos project together, so he'll be keeping busy.

Keith said in his book that around the time of recording Steel Wheels Mick just wanted the Stones to do their own version of The Black Album.

Right on! This should be good. Some real music for a change.
