whatever. She still needed to show her ass, some tit and almost the pus*y in order to turn the song into a hit...

I thought "Whats Love Got To Do With It" was the banger.
Granted, I've always preferred her version than Al Green's.

yeah, WLGTDWI was definitely the smash hit that conquered the MTV/Miami Vice/MJ/Reagan audience...

It was #1 on Billboard before she ever performed it.

that's picky, and false. The explicit video debuted in October 2008. The single reached the Nº1 in January 2009

I'm talking about Billboard. Stans downloaded thousands of copies that week and radio was spinning it like crazy before the video even premiered.

nobody gave a shit about the song (specially outside the US) until the explicit video was aired internationaly...

Some new ones:
Crying Game- Boy George
Am I The Same Girl- Swing Out Sister (seriously, did anyone thing this group would ever again have a top 100 hit (21 in UK, 45 in US pop, #1 US AC).
Justified & Ancient- KLF featuring Tammy Wynette (really? And #11 in the US? LOL)
Batdance -Prince (after Lovesexy, we all thought it was the end. I don't care what the haters say, I love me some Batdance. Isn't this the dude's last #1 pop hit, too?)
Unforgetable -Natalie Cole (she was, until this hit).
Wind Beneath My Wings- Bette Midler (remember when Bette was a huge A-list pop and movie star? Then she became a joke, then A-list Disney movie star and somehow miraculously returned to being a pop star. I miss those days when no matter how crazy your bio was, you could still have a hit based on talent).
These aren't my top, just additional food for thought. Space for sale...

ummm, no dude, no: Cream is and let's not forget the huge success of TMBGITW...
and Lovesexy the end?? I wasn't there in 1988, but I doubt fans thought it was the end,...just another weird album after a pop/rock one (SOTT), just as ATWIAD followed PR...
but I agree that Batdance was his return to the pure mainstream (since Raspberry Beret, or even Kiss)...

2 immediately jump out at me as the most obvious:
Bob Dylan: "Things Have Changed" (people thought he was done at this point, and this Oscar Winning song comes along which still sits alongside his best work from any period. It marked the beginning of an awesome period of resurgence which continues to this day. Dylan has had several dramatic "comebacks," but this is my first choice.)
Beatles: "Free as a Bird"/"Real Love" (the "reunion" that no one thought possible! "Real Love" being the stronger of the 2 singles IMO)
To a lesser extent, not because of the strength of the songs, but because it was a less dramatic "comeback" due to a shorter time away from the charts:
Paul McCartney/Stevie Wonder: "Ebony & Ivory" U2: "One" David Bowie: "Let's Dance"/"Modern Love" John Lennon: "Starting Over"/"Watching the Wheels" Paul Simon: "You Can Call Me Al"/"Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes" Pink Floyd: "Learning to Fly"

I almost picked this one but wasn't sure if it was indeed a comeback.
Oh, oh, oh:
The Beach Boys- Kokomo

I think Wipeout with The Fat Boys came out before this. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Nah! "Rebirth!"
As much as I dig the "Strength & Loyalty", it wasn't a REAL comeback until Bizzy returned to the fold. And to a lesser degree, Flesh, too.
I was hoping for U-Neek to come back and produce for them again. But guess you can't have everything. |

Yeah but that wasn't a hit for them that they were able to capitalize on like Aerosmith did with Walk This Way. Plus, did they even perform on the song or was it a sample? Space for sale...

It's no sample, the Beach Boys actually sang on it and also appeared in the video. The original Wipeout is an instrumental song by the Surfaris. The Fat Boys Wipeout was a top 15 hit. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. The Beach Boys Wiki paged for Kokomo stated it was their first hit since the 70s or something. Still, does anyone really attribute Wipeout to Beach Boys? That was all about The Fat Boys IMHO. Space for sale...

good choice though i would say "ONE" since that got them back into the top 10 for the first time in a decade. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
