Your Top5 (or 10) biggest comeback singles

We've had some "best comeback albums" threads before, but what about the singles? what about those songs that "resurrected" bands/artists after years and years of critical abuse, loss of fan support, extremely low sales and/or some underrated and/or crappy albums? C'mon, I wanna see your lists:

mine:

1.Duran Duran - Ordinary World (92-93)

2.Santana - Smooth (99-00)

3.Tina Turner - What's Love What to Do with It (84)

4.Aerosmith - Dude (Looks Like a Lady) (87-88)

5.U2 - Beautiful Day (2000)

I think "Let's Stay Together" was really Tina's big comeback single, although "What's Love Got To Do With It" undeniably took it to the next level. Those are all good ones you've listed.

Here are some I would include:

John Lennon - "(Just Like) Starting Over"

Prince - "Musicology"

Neil Young - "Rockin' in the Free World"

The Rolling Stones - "Mixed Emotions"

Fleetwood Mac - "Silver Springs (live)"

Kate Bush - "King of the Mountain"

Elton John - "I'm Still Standing"

Blondie - "Maria"

The Cars - "Sad Song"

Stone Temple Pilots - "Between the Lines"

Cher - "Believe"

My definition of a 'comeback' could mean a return after a long absence, or after a lack of success or simply a return to the 'mainstream' audiences:

1. We Belong Together (Mariah Carey)

2. Jump They Say (David Bowie)

3. By your Side (Sade)

4. Pretty Wings (Maxwell)

5. Come Undone (Duran Duran)

6. Gett Off (Prince - I)

7. Musicology (Prince -2)

6. Hey Baby (No Doubt)

7. Like a rolling stone (The Rolling Stones)

8. Believe (Cher)

9. Contagious (The Isley Brothers)

10. The Hand That Feeds (Nine Inch nails)

Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.

It didn't.

That's why I consider "Call My Name" as his comeback single. It did really well on the Urban AC chart.

The Urban A-Zzzzzz.... What? lol.

I don't think Prince has legitimately had a comeback single since uh... Well, never. He's never "come back" fully. He gets props on the albums and ties them into some funky sales gimmick and then moves on, maybe doing a video or two, but which single has actually garnered any real attention?

Prince has yet to make a successful comeback because he shoots himself in the foot half way there, so he has a lot of false starts in his career, but little more.

Although he never stopped recording and releasing records, Good Love (1996) by Johnnie Taylor was his 1st song to recieve a lot of radio play on R&B radio since the early 1980's. The album it came from wound up being the biggest seller in Malaco Records history.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Why is U2 on your list?

1995, Passengers: ignored side project with Eno/Pavarotti

1997, Pop: mixed (or just plain hostile) reviews, no hit singles, upset/disappointed fans with that dance/pop/club sound, bad artwork, and an excessive, often laughable tour... bands like Radiohead or The Verve completely eclipsed U2 during the late-90's...

"Let's Stay Together" was much bigger in the UK, but as far as a comeback, I think it might qualify since it had been years since she had a hit.
