You know what's just as sad? His family pointing fingers at whose fault it is that El was out there and not even helping. Especially the ones who claim they're sober now (Chico, Bunny, Randy).

What's even more sad is that this "comeback" has just been unfulfilling on both sides of the caliber. The industry just watered him down, cleaned his image up, gave him "at-the-moment" producers, and put him back into the limelight to make money and cripple him. Despite El sounding solid vocally, it's clear that he was not ready and hadn't come full circle. I just wish his family could've stepped out and given him some intervention, but what can you do. El just needs to step back for awhile or it's gonna get progressively worse. Check me out and add me on:

I don’t agree with that I think EL just wasn’t ready the whole time I really thought he was.

Did someone say "that's all we needed" at the end of that tape? If so, why did they need El to say that on video? And that was right after he didn't perform? WTF??? There's some sh*t going on there and it's not just drug use.

I said that in my statement! It was an industry thing. They do that to all the folks who fall down hard and who are looking for that chance back into the limelight. They gotta play the game and act as if they've moved on with their lives. It just doesn't work. They haven't come full circle. Look at Whitney! [Edited 6/26/11 17:52pm] Check me out and add me on:

No I mean I don’t think he was being used he was never ready and maybe was saying that he was when he know he wasn’t. And whitney can gtfoh at a time the industry will take advantage but there’s a time when you just know better and need to get yourself together. I don’t fall for that poor me mess.

Damn.. the beast gave him a "second chance" when he wasn't ready.
He sounds great on the record though! I was surprised at this footage.

I dont know much about addiction, but maybe El should stay out of the music business now. It doesn't seem to be good for him, I don't know. He just looks so fragile, you want to give him a hug.

I believed that El was gonna really knock it out of the ball park when I saw his magnificent performance at the BET awards. His return was much needed and so highly anticipated, but in my mind, the industry was not gonna let him have his way. The new album was so-so and I kinda expected that. Music aside, I think that his personal problems weren't taken into consideration and he didn't take the time to really prep himself. The industry pushes everything from money, drugs, alcohol, leeches, power, etc. He made the choice to come back, so he has to know what was good for him. Sadly, he has succumbed back into the demons and who is to blame for that? Not the industry, El himself. Check me out and add me on:

I remember an orger making that same point on a thread about El and his drug problems earlier this year and got maimed by other orgers for it but unfortunately if El doesn't get it together it looks like that orger would have told the cold hard truth. Don't laugh at my funk

Something is going on. I don't know if I'd be so quick to suggest that he isn't getting family support. I saw him earlier this month, along with Chico who was also on the ticket. Despite it being 4 acts with El being the headliner, the show was quite delayed. There was quite a delay waiting for Chico to come on, but when he did, he delivered. Bunny sang back-up along with her daughter and another woman rumored to be her daughter, but not sure, as she looked too old. Then, to our surprise, Bunny performed "A Dream". It was her moment, and she sang that song as if her life depended on it, turning it into an extended version. I don't know if this was a stall tactic or not. After that perfromance, Bunny left the stage and didn't return even though Chico continued to perform.
Finally, El came on. It was quite late, past 1 AM (the event was supposed to start at 8). Although his sound was good, he only sang 4 songs, Close To You off the new album and 3 old songs.
You got the feeling that he had to stop. They had to get out of that building. I was not happy. I had an excellent seat and paid good money for my ticket. Don't know if El arrived late, needed to get himself together or what. But I agree with the others, after getting out of rehab, maybe more time is needed.

He got what he deserved. I'm actually surprised the audience didn't get REAL loud and ignorant, though.

I'm not sure what's all going on with his family. One would hope his mother, sister, and possibly other members of their family pull back and get off social websites and speak "truths" about their issues in a more private setting, good grief.
That being said...
One can only hope for El's sake he can find the werewithall to stay clean and sober. Saying he needs to get it together at this point is damn dumb.... a simpleton slogan like the one decades ago, "Just Say No". He's way beyond that and Im sure he wants to stop but it's not that easy or that simple. If anyone has ever had anyone who's been addicted and fought to stay clean, you'll understand if they only have to go through rehab lil' more than a dozen times before achieving sobriety, they are lucky. Those whom I've known who've been in treatment and overcame, have spoken of the importance of having a "sponsor" at their side for a better part of a year. I wonder if El has one... a sponsor?
People who have substance issues push your love for them to the fucking limits stilll, they need A person to be there to help as much as one can... support. Ultimately, El will have to find his way beyond this and the sad truth, he may not. I have great sympathy for people with addiction issues.

Why do people still care about this man?

A friend of mine involved with this show sent me this clip that combines the prior ones...
I will say that some of the "excuses" being proffered for his "behavior", is inaccurate to say the least (being kind). Without going into specific details, this started badly offstage and only got worse onstage.

There have been recent reports from concert attendees who were backstage, who claim that El was suffering from jet lag and that he was not able to perform. According to other people on Facebook, who attended the event Saturday, El was apparently under the influence of drugs and couldn't play or sing a note. Members of the audience started to boo him off of the stage. Concert promoters seemed to be "fed up" with El's behavior onstage and off-stage before his set, causing them to end his set altogether.
Now I don't know who to believe, but I'm still believing that El's drug problems are one of the reasons why this all took place. Bad management and unprofessionalism from the concert promoters and people working in El's camp were to blame as well. [Edited 6/27/11 2:00am] [Edited 6/27/11 2:28am] Check me out and add me on:

I was supposed to see him with Kem back in February, but he entered rehab right before that, and we got Musiq Soulchild.
I am going to see Kem again on August 12, and El DeBarge is supposed to be there. I have a feeling that he won't.... Again.

a similiar ordeal is happening to Amy Whitehouse right now.
It's time for these people to just STOP.No more performances,no more recordings,no more comeback attempts,no more going to rehab for a few weeks and then claiming that you're "OK and ready to return to the stage" It's time for them to STOP,spend a *LONG TIME* getting the help they need, and stay out of the spotlight until they get that help.
Remember several months ago when El relapsed? He was back on tour a few weeks later If he keeps doing that,it's gonna be a vicious cycle that never ends.
