What songs define your beliefs on war?

I have an hour long radio show each week (which is repeated twice), and I get to play music for youth. Usually, my show is full of punk rock, but occasionally I do theme shows which may include a bigger variety of music.

Next week's show is about WAR and social injustice (focusing on more than just race). I'm asking for your help in creating a playlist. If it speaks to our current situation with Iraq and the MidEast, then I'm all for it. I need more punk and rock, maybe something else from Sly, and some funk. Positive music would be cool too. This is what I have so far to choose from:

Sound effects: guns, bombs, screams, planes, etc.
Soundbites: on Iraq, bombings, on battlefield, the prez, CNN, movies
"I Fought In A War" by Belle & Sebastian
"Dixie" -- Civil War Songs (with bombs & screaming)
"Old War Chant" -- Damian Jr. Gong Marley
"Make War" -- Bright Eyes
"Party Up" -- Prince (fade in final verse and ending chant)
"State of the World" -- Janet Jackson (with tv interlude)
"War Isn't Working" -- Sheila Nichols
"War?" -- System of a Down
"Rhythm Nation 1814" -- Janet Jackson (excerpt)
"The Knowledge" -- Janet Jackson
"The War" -- Prince (excerpt)
"Dance On" -- Prince (fade in and out)
"Sign O' The Times" -- Prince (about the Columbia as well)
"Everyday People" -- mix of many artists
"Right Now" -- Chris Gains aka Garth Brooks
"The Walk" -- The Time (excerpt)
"Civil War" -- Guns'n'Roses
"War of 1812" -- Arrogant Worms (excerpt)
"America" -- Prince
"1999" -- Prince ("why does everybody have a bomb?")
"Crawling In My Skin" -- Linkin Park (9/11 version)
"Groove News" -- ?? (with Dan Rather)
"Yesterday" -- Beatles
"Freedom" -- Richie Havens

Also, I'm looking for a good poem or two (maybe an essay) to read over a three-minute instrumental called "An Epitaph to War" by James Horner and part of "The War" by Prince.

Thanks for any help. If I get some decent replies, I will give credit to prince.org in my show, and I may make two different shows out of this. (Sorry, we don't have our Internet-streaming rights worked out yet, otherwise I'd share the final product).

edit: adding on

the War song - Culture Club

War was stupid, and people are stupid, and love means nothing, in some strange quarters. War was stupid and people are stupid, and I heard the banging, of hearts and fingers. WAR!.

thats the chorus, but the other lyrics are cool too.

Now were fighting in our hearts, We are fighting in the streets, want somebody help me!. No more war, no more war, no more war!

'What's Going On' - Marvin Gaye

That says it all in a nutshell. Just play that, over and over, and over...

I add a very old song but a very fine one.
It was sung by Marlene Dietrich and i prefer it in German (it is also in a English version).
The title is 'sag mir wo die Blumen sind'.

...mercy, mercy, me, indeed.

Thanks for the songs. Looks like most of the things I'll be playing will be excerpts and shortened versions all woven together with soundbites and sound effects, like the first two minutes of "The War Song" by Culture Club, a segment from "Live 4 Love," "Ball of Confusion" by Anthrax, and the entire "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye.

Also, I just thought of "Tea Leaf Prophecy" by Joni Mitchell which says, "Study war no more... lay down your arms."

Oh, and how about "Koo Koo" and "The World is High" by Sheila E?

Keep the suggestions coming... Thanks!

I can only find this in German by her and a couple other German artists. I also found "Where Have all the Flowers Gone?" by Marlene Dietrich, but I like the Kingston Trio version best: "Where have all the soldiers gone? Into the grave, every one. When will they ever learn?"

ah yeah, thx

Hey now, maybe we can find a good reason
2 send a child off 2 war
So what if we're controllin' all the oil,
Is it worth a child dying 4? (is it worth it?)
If long life is what we all live 4
Then long life will come 2 pass
Anything is better than the picture of the child
In a cloud of gas
And u think u got it bad

Money don't matter 2 night (no, don't matter)
It sure didn't matter yesterday (yesterday)
Just when u think u've got more than enough
That's when it all up and flies away (flies away, flies away)
That's when u find out that u're better off
Makin' sure your soul's alright (make certain that your soul's alright)
Cuz money didn't matter yesterday,
... it sure don't matter 2 night
