No, its not. There are literally THOUSANDS of great rock, electronic and jazz artists releasing interesting original music right now. But you have to make an effort to discover them. You may have to wade through some stuff you DON'T like to find the stuff you love. But people will have to stop listening to what mainstream media feeds them and spend that time working at finding the stuff that really fulfills them if they want something different. The good stuff simply isn't being pushed by the "big guys" right now. And because record sales are so slow these days, the little guys don't have the money to do major promotional campaigns anymore. But believe me, if you look for it, there is GREAT stuff out there waiting to be heard.

Some of my younger cousins like this 'jerk rap', although it just sounds like teen girls talking nasty to me. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

a lot of people on this forum are rude asses, just curse him out.
I remember when i first join they were hurting my feelings too, I NEVER used to curse either, now if they try to mess with me I will GO crazy on them. Don't be so nice they will walk over you.
and if anyone doesn't think the majority of mainstream american music is dead, then their an idiot

you act like gays are a different species or something. lololol
things have changed, but i would think by now you would have accepted how music changed.

I think the idiot may be the person who didn't process the thread title. Because it doesn't say, "A Majority of American Mainstream Music Is Dead". It just says, "Music Is Dead", and its not. Not in the slightest. In fact I'd say its stronger than its been at any point in the last decade.
Also, I totally disagree with you advice regarding people being jerk faces here. Acting the same way NEVER helps, or fixes the problem. That's been proven here a thousand times over. They don't know you from a hole in the wall, so just ignore 'em and have discussions with the people who treat you fairly. Without calling them an idiot if at all possible.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
i think the idiot is the person who didn't read all the AMERICAN artist he listed, which would insinuate he was talking about AMERICAN mainstream music.
I think the idiot is a person who just looks at the title, and NOT read and comprehend the whole post. You can catch the jist of what he is saying.
I think the idiot maybe the person who is a hypocrite tell others not call others idiots, when they did themselves.
there are a lot of rude people on this forum. I been here since 2004 i should know.
Even if you don't act the same its not going to fix it, atleast if you say something back they won't mess with you as much. I used to get messed with a lot when i first joined because i let people say shit to me and not say anything back.
just like im say shit right back to you

"American" music would be created by the natives, who were here 1st and they didn't speak English. English is a language native to Europe. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Hey Tyler,
i have a quick question, are you speaking about AMERICAN MAINSTREAM MUSIC???

Oh, I've heard some Indians throwin' DOWN. I couldn't believe it but they were. The drums were throbbing, hell, it was like Indian house music. I enjoyed myself. Andy is a four letter word.

We are a different species. Disco started in our clubs and we're the ones that made house big. We've always had our own underground scene and always partied hard even when straight people were getting into weaker stuff.....until now. Andy is a four letter word.

lets not nit pic, you know exactly what i mean
I guess you don't call people living in the USA, AMERICANS. Cause if not what do you call them and their music. Cause last time i check people call it American Music. ie AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS
Native American is the correct term for the natives who were here FIRST.
i swear people try to be smart asses

I imagine that this is a worldwide site, so you can't assume that everyone that posts here lives in the USA. "American" can mean anything, like a person living in South America, North America, Central America, etc. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

but guess what they call it AMERICAN MUSIC.
which is why we have the AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS.
american can mean all the above, BUT most people just say AMERICA, when they are speaking of the USA, and when they are speaking about both south and north they say AMERICAS.

They didn't call themselves that. How can they be Native Americans (or Columbus calling them Indians), when it was the white immigrants who stole their lands that named the place the United States of America, the ones from Spain who named Mexico, etc. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

GOING OFF ON A TANGENT
what the HELL does this have to do with?????
AMERICAN MAINSTREAM MUSIC, or even this thread???????
just like africans didn't call themselves africans, how can they be Africans, when the french named their entire continent???? Weren't they originally called nubians????? So what are the "natives" in america called then????

I'm not mad about anything, because I don't know what you said other than saying that something was foreign. It is incorrect to say that non-English music is foreign to the US. English is foreign as well. It is not native to the USA, just as French is not native to Canada, or Spanish to Mexico. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Whatever their individual tribes name were. They didn't have a collective name for everyone in the land, such as Indian, American, Canadian, Russian, Iranian, British, etc. They weren't all the same people or race. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Negative people can't do anything but hurl out insults. Anybody can say stuff on a computer, but won't do it face to face if they knew who they were talking to. I've heard several stories of people getting beat up or killed because someone arguing online decided to track the other party down. You don't know who you're talking to online. Thugs, KKK, gang members, prisoners, rapists, etc. are on the internet too. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Why do you even care????
any language that i cannot understand is foreign to me. The person was talking about arabic music, and YES that is foreign to me. Just how someone who speaks spanish would consider any other language foreign to them if they do not understand. So from my point of view YES ITS FOREIGN. i don't care if its native to the USA, WHAT does this have to do with what this thread is about.
what is your point????... what are you trying to prove???? it still doesn't change the fact, i don't like to listen to music that is not in English and I PREFER American music. I just like to know what they are saying, is that a crime.....
i can tell what i said earlier bothered you, and I know what it was.
You still can't rebutal the fact that American Music is called AMERICAN MUSIC, now you are going off on a tangent that makes no sense, and has nothing to do with nothing, and its not even proving anything wrong, nor is it helping your argument. Your trying to find a way to make what i say wrong, when its NOT. I find this hilarious.

what are you trying to insinuate, let me know now so i can start the investigation and law suit.
negative can nit pic over bullshit just to start arguments, and since you know all this why are you picking arguments with people online and especially over bullshit, that has no logic.

I Myself am 20, and i agree music is not as great as it once was. But i agree with a lot of these people it's a cliche for people to keep saying music is dead! i mean i just don't listen to the radio
My ipod is my radio & i ignore the rest haha. But in hindsight we do have some underground artists that are very good!, so i just listen to them. I have learned to just live with my ipod and ignore current trends cause it doesn't matter to me.

I think before you go spouting your "knowledge" you should do a bit of research...
Although the American Music Awards is primarily for artists that originate from the United States, international artists like Elton John, Def Leppard, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, George Michael, Rihanna, Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Justin Bieber, Muse, and the Spice Girls have also won awards on the show, although this is primarily due to their popularity in the United States.
While the Grammy Awards are awarded based on votes by members of the entertainment industry, the AMAs are determined by a poll of music buyers, and as a result is more of a representative of public opinion.

LIKE I SAID!!! its still called AMERICAN MUSIC
the whole argument was about me saying this guy was talking about American music,
and i asked him was he talking about AMERICAN MUSIC, and he said YES.
i don't care about technicalities or whatever. Does Celine Dion Live in the USA, almost all those artist you listed live in the US, and record in the US and have American Producers, and sing in english. SO most people CONSIDER it AMERICAN MUSIC.
Thats like me saying if i go to japan, record music in japanese language, and have japanese producers, and produce music of their culture, that its American music, just because im American.
British and Canadians have ALWAYS tried to copy American Music, so with that being said, you can still consider it AMERICAN MUSIC if its played in USA and was made to cater to US Radio.
