No, its not. There are literally THOUSANDS of great rock, electronic and jazz artists releasing interesting original music right now. But you have to make an effort to discover them. You may have to wade through some stuff you DON'T like to find the stuff you love. But people will have to stop listening to what mainstream media feeds them and spend that time working at finding the stuff that really fulfills them if they want something different. The good stuff simply isn't being pushed by the "big guys" right now. And because record sales are so slow these days, the little guys don't have the money to do major promotional campaigns anymore. But believe me, if you look for it, there is GREAT stuff out there waiting to be heard.

Some of my younger cousins like this 'jerk rap', although it just sounds like teen girls talking nasty to me.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

For example, lately I’ve been obsessed with arabic music. Sooo goood. So much soul. &I don’t even have to understand it to appreciate the beauty of that music.

See, it doesn’t even have to be in english. I’m always discovering new music, constantly. New and old. That is the beauty of the internet; I can always find something great!

Start listening to the underground! Plenty of choices...Find what type of music you like and ..look for it. It is what we have to do these days...or stick around here, sometimes people know some really good shit (like Dam Funk, Lugo, Sam Sparro, Confection, Bjork ) that will not get play on the radio! Stick around.

That's what I used to do in the 1990s when shit hop took over. I listened to strictly the underground gay house music scene and I partied all night long in a club full of gay people while the above ground straight world was asleep.

However, it's different now. There is no underground gay black scene. It's shit hop and mainstream. There is an underground gay white scene these days but it's that shitty trance music that sounds horrible. If I were to find some underground music that I like these days, I would be listening to it alone and that's no fun. There's nothing like partying with a large group of people and having fun instead of finding something good, listening to it alone, and feeling like you're alone on a desert island because no one else is listening to it. It feels like the rest of the world died and you're the only one that survived and that's a very lonely feeling.

Good music has always been something played in a social setting where people gather, meet new people, and have fun. Nowadays, good music is something to listen to alone and that's ass backwards from the way it used to be.

I think the idiot may be the person who didn't process the thread title. Because it doesn't say, "A Majority of American Mainstream Music Is Dead". It just says, "Music Is Dead", and its not. Not in the slightest. In fact I'd say its stronger than its been at any point in the last decade.

Also, I totally disagree with you advice regarding people being jerk faces here. Acting the same way NEVER helps, or fixes the problem. That's been proven here a thousand times over. They don't know you from a hole in the wall, so just ignore 'em and have discussions with the people who treat you fairly. Without calling them an idiot if at all possible. biggrin

i think the idiot is the person who didn't read all the AMERICAN artist he listed, which would insinuate he was talking about AMERICAN mainstream music.

I think the idiot is a person who just looks at the title, and NOT read and comprehend the whole post. You can catch the jist of what he is saying.

I think the idiot maybe the person who is a hypocrite tell others not call others idiots, when they did themselves.

there are a lot of rude people on this forum. I been here since 2004 i should know.

Even if you don't act the same its not going to fix it, atleast if you say something back they won't mess with you as much. I used to get messed with a lot when i first joined because i let people say shit to me and not say anything back.

Why do you even care????

any language that i cannot understand is foreign to me. The person was talking about arabic music, and YES that is foreign to me. lol

Just how someone who speaks spanish would consider any other language foreign to them if they do not understand.

So from my point of view YES ITS FOREIGN.

i don't care if its native to the USA, WHAT does this have to do with what this thread is about. lol

what is your point????... what are you trying to prove???? it still doesn't change the fact, i don't like to listen to music that is not in English and I PREFER American music. I just like to know what they are saying, is that a crime..... lol

i can tell what i said earlier bothered you, and I know what it was.

You still can't rebutal the fact that American Music is called AMERICAN MUSIC, now you are going off on a tangent that makes no sense, and has nothing to do with nothing, and its not even proving anything wrong, nor is it helping your argument. Your trying to find a way to make what i say wrong, when its NOT. I find this hilarious. lol

I think before you go spouting your "knowledge" you should do a bit of research...

Although the American Music Awards is primarily for artists that originate from the United States, international artists like Elton John, Def Leppard, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, George Michael, Rihanna, Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Justin Bieber, Muse, and the Spice Girls have also won awards on the show, although this is primarily due to their popularity in the United States.

While the Grammy Awards are awarded based on votes by members of the entertainment industry, the AMAs are determined by a poll of music buyers, and as a result is more of a representative of public opinion.

LIKE I SAID!!! its still called AMERICAN MUSIC

the whole argument was about me saying this guy was talking about American music,

and i asked him was he talking about AMERICAN MUSIC, and he said YES.

i don't care about technicalities or whatever. Does Celine Dion Live in the USA, almost all those artist you listed live in the US, and record in the US and have American Producers, and sing in english. SO most people CONSIDER it AMERICAN MUSIC.

Thats like me saying if i go to japan, record music in japanese language, and have japanese producers, and produce music of their culture, that its American music, just because im American.

British and Canadians have ALWAYS tried to copy American Music, so with that being said, you can still consider it AMERICAN MUSIC if its played in USA and was made to cater to US Radio.
