Nirvana's breakthrough 1991 album Nevermind will be given a 20th anniversary release on September 19 in the UK and September 20 in North America.

The Super Deluxe Edition will comprise of four CDs, boasting B-sides, alternate mixes, live recordings, rarities and BBC radio sessions.

An accompanying DVD will also feature a full, previously-unreleased live show.

Further releases and events to mark the anniversary will be announced shortly.

The follow-up to their 1989 debut Bleach, Nevermind was Nirvana's first album to feature drummer Dave Grohl, who later founded the Foo Fighters.

Nevermind was produced by Butch Vig, who this year helmed the Foo Fighters' seventh studio album Wasting Light, which reunited Grohl with Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic.

I always liked In Utero more, but Nevermind changed music forever.

Nirvana was one of the first bands I ever got into, they made me love music.

The full, extras-packed tracklistings for the Deluxe and Super Deluxe reissues of Nirvana's 1991 album 'Nevermind' have been revealed. Both will be released on September 26 (September 27 in North America).

The 2CD Deluxe edition will contain a remastered cut of the original album plus B-sides as well as a CD featuring the Smart Studio Sessions, The Boombox Rehearsals and BBC Sessions.

The 4CD + DVD Super Deluxe edition will contain these two CDs, plus a CD of the previously unreleased The Devonshire Mixes and the previously unreleased Live At The Paramount Theatre from their 1991 Halloween gig in Seattle, footage of which will also be included on the DVD.

The show is the only known Nirvana gig that was shot to film. The Deluxe edition will also be available on vinyl.

About time. One of the few major early-90s acts/bands without proper remasters, until now...

I'd also like a Deluxe Edition of In Utero...and Unplugged...

Incesticide sounds fine the way it is...

cool

The DVD sounds like a good idea, but haven't they scraped the bottom of the barrel with these outtakes and alternate mixes?

You mean previously on their box sets and schitt? I find these demos fascinating to hear!

IMHO, Vig's Devonshire mix of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" beats the original. I can't wait to hear them.

This will be "digital" for me other than the heavyweight vinyl. Its something I don't have on vinyl yet and I'd like to own it in that format. The rest of it, meh. I don't really need to own physical copies of stuff from the bottom of the Nirvana barrel. I was really disappointed with "With The Lights Out" (I hate English sometimes) and I think it soured me on further releases like this from them. I'll just stick with checkin' these out digitally before I spend a chunk of cash buying the box set.

Honestly, I think I'd rather have this.

I am in no way comparing them or saying one is better than the other, I'd just rather have this box set than the Nirvana one.

That makes me wish I was a Smiths fan.

As for the Nevermind reissue, I read that the live show will be released separately on blu-ray so I may go for the 2-disc version and the blu-ray rather than the super deluxe box.

For many years the extent of my Smiths fandom was absolutely loving "How Soon Is Now" and thinking I didn't know anything else by them. But in the last few years I've come to the realization that I know a lot more of their songs than I thought and I actually like them. I figure my friends must have played them when I was around but not really paying attention. lol Since I own very few of their releases (like, one) and the box contains so much vinyl drool I think think I may try to pick one up. I'm the price will fit the size of the set, though, so there's a chance I'll pass, too.

There are Smiths songs that absolutely make me swoon--the ones with the ballroom glam rock sound like "Panic" and "Sheila Takes A Bow" specifically--and I have The Sound of The Smiths comp which satisfies me for the time being, but I was never motivated to investigate them further (beyond The Queen is Dead LP). When the smaller box set of only the albums is released, I could be enticed to buy that.
