Amy Winehouse booed at Serbia

British singer Amy Winehouse makes a phone call as she arrives at Belgrade airport on Saturday to start her 12 day European tour with a show at Kalemegdan Park

Amy Winehouse was booed and jeered during a concert in Serbia's capital as she stumbled onto the stage, mumbled through her songs and wandered off.

Serbian media described the concert late Saturday kicking off her European tour before about 20,000 fans as a "scandal" and a "disaster." The Blic daily said the concert was "the worst in the history of Belgrade."

Winehouse, who has publicly struggled with drugs and alcohol, was almost an hour late, before stumbling to the stage and appearing unable to remember the lyrics to her songs. She dropped the microphone and occasionally disappeared, with her band playing instead.

The crowd at Belgrade's fortress could hardly tell which song Winehouse was singing and responded angrily. Many walked out in disappointment.

"It was horrible," said Ivana Bilic, a fan. "She should have canceled the whole thing, rather than appear at all like this."

The Daily Blic posted a clip from the concert on its website, commenting, "Listen if you dare."

Tickets cost about euro40 ($57) — very expensive in the country where average salaries are about euro300 ($428) a month.

Winehouse recently spent a week at a rehab program in London. Her breakthrough album "Back to Black" from 2006 won five Grammy Awards, but her music in recent years has been overshadowed by drug use and run-ins with the law.

IMO, it seems as though Amy Winehouse has an unresolved childhood trama that she is too afraid to look at in counsuling. I hope she will let go of her demon(s).

the thing is that she has issues, and always did and yet she keeps going out there and starting the ball again, I mean she spent one week in a rehab and then came out, shes been in and out of them for years now, run in with law, drug busts, obviously the rehabs arent working. As George Carlin said years before his death about Drug Usage, he said "At some point you hope that intelligence takes over your mind and you can stop the pain, but YOU ALSO HAVE TO HAVE SOMETHING TO LIVE FOR" that is the huge issue, people like Robert Downey Robin Williams etc..went through rehabs and came out because they had people around them close, that werent enablers and YES men, people like Amy dont have that, so im sad to say, she might not see that she has something to live for, because the "music" isnt going to be enough for her.

Bummer. The concert promoter should make an effort to refund fans who lost money attending a gig by an artist who's plainly a shell of herself.

Doesn't Britain have some version of the Britney-is-crazy conservatorship that could allow her parents to control Wino's money so she can't buy drugs?

Her enabler problem is ridiculous. Everyone around her will publicly shout to the rooftops that she's alright and is sorting herself out just fine. While it's obvious that every addict can only get through recovery for themselves, and because they truly want to do it, it sure doesn't help having a bunch of nincompoops around you just nodding yes all day while you smoke your kneecaps off.

She needs to go to rehab "for real" this time. And I don't mean a few weeks, either. She needs to forget about her career for awhile. No performances,no recordings until she gets herself together!

It is stupid. Why should one of the band step in? If anyone should step in, it's her manager. The money's relatively crap playing for Amy considering how big she is and up until around 18 months ago, the band wouldn't even get cancellation fees.

People talk about her like she's 10. She's old enough to do what she does. Intervention is pointless in a situation like this where the person doesn't want to change their ways.

She's been doing stuff like this from day 1. She'd often not turn up at non-UK gigs in the early days as she'd be off getting pissed somewhere; most times when she did turn up, she was too out of it to go on stage. Her old management covered it up, whereas her new one embraced this. And it worked - the fucked-up "rock star" always sells.

And she's not all that in the first place.

Winehouse Cancels European Tour

June 21, 2011

Link

Amy Winehouse's current European tour, which was to have included 12 stops before winding up Aug. 15 in Bucharest, Romania, has been canceled, it was announced Tuesday morning.

The problem began Saturday night. Attempting to perform while appearing to be under the influence, Winehouse was booed in Belgrade after arriving on stage an hour late, then stumbling around and slurring the words to her 2008 song "Just Friends."

She greeted the crowd of 20,000 by shouting, "Hello, Athens," reports the U.K.'s Telegraph newspaper.

Following the incident, Winehouse, 27, apologized to fans and canceled Monday's scheduled performance in Istanbul and Wednesday's in Athens.

Late last month, Winehouse checked into rehab for her ongoing problem with alcohol, the singer's rep confirmed. The treatment was seen as preparation for this tour.

In a statement following the Belgrade incident, Winehouse's management said: "Despite feeling sure that she wanted to fulfill these commitments, she has agreed with management that she cannot perform to the best of her ability and will return home. … She would like to apologize to fans expecting to see her at the shows but feels that this is the right thing to do."

Just watched the video of this. Excruciating! boxed I felt bad for the band, who kept trying to hold it together as their singer fell apart.

Seemed from what I'd read fairly recently like she was getting herself together. I guess not. confused
