Puffy: The Abomination Of Hip Hop

Abomination might be a harsh word to say about somebody, but when it comes to Puffy, it's true!

This clown pretty much ruined Hip Hop & everything it stood for imo. The only thing good he ever gave us was Biggie. That's it!

Imo, Puffy is one of the first media whores. He not a real producer, but he's wishes he was one. He's not a real rapper, but he wishes he was one. He's not anything other than a clown posing as if he's important. I'm not even going to mention those artist who he's robbed over the years...

I often wonder how much better Hip Hop would be today if he never got the power he did in the music industry.

His influence turned Hip Hop into R&B [Rap & Bullshit]. His _______ ways got some of the most important figures in Hip Hop killed, & yet, he walks the streets like he has nothing to do with anything.

His "dumbing" down of Hip Hop is the reason why so many clowns today can get away with the trash that is considered Rap or Hip Hop, & why so many people can't stand it [like myself].

He has never done anything other than draw attention to his self....for no reason. Imo, to support the this guy, is like supporting everything that's wrong in music today.

This fuckin' clown needs to be stopped!

Pardon me for being so rude, but I'm not taking a single bit of this back! I hope he gets in trouble over what's recently came out over the Tupac shooting too........BITCH!

I've been thinking basically the same for some time now. Diddy (and I might get some heat for this) other artists like Jay-Z pretty much set the groundwork for what we have today back in the late 90's. Just the sound of their music, the kind of beats they used, how popish they were just eventually evolved into this mess.

But in my opinion, Hip-Hop is kinda getting better than it has been. By the mid 00's to higher 00's it was at an all time low. But ever since 2009 or a little earlier, things have been steady getting better. Now there is more and more rappers popping up who have an actual image and not just the type dance song rapper or rapper who makes songs about money. People like that are becoming 1 hit wonders and not being heard of again.

Hey yo Titty -

This is the only post you've ever made that I actually completely and totally agree with.

I hope you don't get banned, after all.

I totally agree that it is getting better now. But he's a BIG reason it became so fucked up in the first place...I will give you no heat for your opinion because imho, your right!

It's a lot of incredible emcee's today. Too bad they'll probably never get the exposure they deserve though....they might not be "Pop" enough....

Nah Titty, usually you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, especially when it comes to Prince.

But on this one I agree Titty so I'll stand down.

I just wanna say 'titty' again, so...okay, bye Titty.

I liked him during his first album and just before it and that song with Keiysha Cole just for her part (the only song of hers I care for), but I also agree he ruined hip hop and is the most unoriginal artist there is for the genre. He didn't sample, he ROBBED classics and I guess he made it easy for anybody to become a rapper. Thank god for people like Kanye West who at least know how to be creative with samples and be meaningful and fun in his music, instead of being obsessed with stupidity in his music

Puffy is no longer relevant in the hiphop world.

This thread is 10 years too late.

Maybe I am too old school (I came up with Public Enemy and Eric B and Rakim), but in a thread where someone is complaining about Puffy, then someone else agrees and says "Thank God for Kanye West", I get lost. To me, that is the same ho in a different dress.

I thought the same in the beginning too, but the more I heard, I decided he's nothing like puffy, or whatever he calls himself these days. And it's very annoying that he stole beats from Grandmaster Flash, The Police and countless others, and stupid people of my generation think it's all classic.

The only things Kanye and Puffy have in common is that they're both black males with a taste for flashy clothing, but don't let that fool you.

I prefer pre-1986 rap, when it was still made with bands playing the music and it was funky & fun. How many rappers today can make 10 minute songs?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

While it's not the golden age of Hip Hop i agree there is quite some good stuff in the Hip Hop world coming out, you had Kanyes last album which was great, you have Lupe as well but those 2 are mainstream wise. There's lots of good going on in the underground to.

Puffy unless he is collaborating can not to any good songs that move me, yes he discovered Biggie & Janelle right? but his raps are weak and his albums dead

I think the last song i dug from Diddy was the P. Diddy & Usher song i Need A Girl and that's more of a guilty pleasure then anything lol

As for the Kanye comment i will constantly defend him cause i am rarely fascinated by modern artists but Kanye & Janelle are my 2 favorites at the moment modern wise. Kanye really goes for the juggler and can make some amazing music, i ask people what song on the radio is as epic as All of The Lights? What song has piano, horns, an orchestras, dozens of background singers and just an operatic sense of sound. And songs like Lost In The World & So Appalled & Jealous are just great stories which is what i love about his music.

But in the midst of all the Diddyness i just stick to my old Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, Schooly D records.

I thought he was on the decline too until I saw him pop up on a list of Forbes' 25 Highest Paid Entertainers last month. That was a surprise!

Almost everybody on there got the $ from touring but Puff still has a lot of outside interests and somebody's still paying for his shite music and overpriced clothing.

But he's not "responsible" for tuning hip-hop into what it is now. The audience is. He's a popularizer, a dumb-downer, and nowadays there are plenty of people like that, may of them making bank.

If he did not exist don't you think some other idiot would have stepped up into exactly the same role?

Ok I will yield to the current generation, as this is not my hip hop. I put it up against the lyrical genius delivery of Rakim and the powerful message of Public Enemy and they just come up way short. Too much whining and hair relaxer.

Well, I guess living in Europe...the rock&pop always dominated the charts and radio's, so it was nice 2 see someone bringing hiphop/R&B 2 the general public.

Sure, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Warren G, De La Soul and Run DMC had their hits but rap was rarely in the charts. And Coolio...and Will Smith but I don't think they were taken serious by the rap crowd.

And yes, I know Dr Dre and his Aftermath got much more respect than Bad Boy records a few years later but still; it was nice 2 hear some commercial Rap/R&B on the radio.....every hour, every day!!

U may not like his music but the sound he introduced, the crystal clear production, grooves and popular samples were amazing at the time. And I don't think it just was Diddy; Destiny's Child became very popular, Timbaland as a great producer of Missy's albums and later Neptunes/Pharrel!!!

And I love Jay-Z but was Hard knock life NOT commercial???

In every genre the same discussion comes along; hardcore metalheads vs hard rock/metal fans,

hardcore rap fans vs R&B/hiphop fans, Rainbow Children vs 3121 wink and so on.....

BTW...I think R&B these days sound terrible...all those so-called '90's Eurodance sounds mixed with R&B or Rap..please!! Have U heard Snoop's Sweat?? And the remix by David Guetta???

http://youtu.be/KnEXrbAQyIo

We had our Eurodance hype in the 90's and it was bad enough!! lol
