Roger Troutman....Jr.

Interesting story of Roger's son:

http://ranmanreviews.blogspot.com/2011/06/lynch-aka-roger-troutman-jr-pinch-of.html

Roger Lynch Troutman, Jr., the son of ZAPP's frontman, Roger Troutman, was an EXTREMELY and EXTRAORDINARY talented musician. He exuded the charisma, determination, and skill set that preceded his young age at the time of this recording. His star was shining very brightly, as any gifted artist would, had they possessed such GOD given abililities. Roger, Jr. was born in 1970 and hailed from Minnesota. He joined his father's band in 1987 where he was taught first hand to manipulate and master the talkbox.

Having worked alongside his father, he gained the experience of performing in front of adoring fans around the world, as well as to learn the craft of songwriting, and musicianship. All these skills culminated in him to record his Capitol Records solo debut release in 1989. His impressive debut is titled, "A Pinch Of Lynch". Let's rediscover some of the highlights of a record, that had been given a chance at radio, could've done remarkably well on it's own merit, and NOT on the affiliation he had with his father.

My friend has that album, but I've never listened to it.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

My friend got it when it came out as he likes Roger Troutman a lot. He's a friend of one of Roger Sr.'s neices and got the album from her. I think it was a self released CD and probably wasn't sold in stores, so that's why it's unknown.

Yeah, Gray +1 on the '89 debut. Showed a lotta potential & was a (still is) a fun spin.

Sad that he left us too soon.

How many records did he release? The only one I've seen is The Second Coming.

Just the 1989 debut "A Pinch Of Lyinch" (Roger producing)......"The Second Coming" was Rog's other son.

So Roger "Jr." and Roger "II" are two different people? If so, that's kinda like George Foreman's children. wink

Nope....my bad.

Although "commonly" referred to just as "Lynch Troutman", it was the same son on both LP's, I believe. He died in '03 (I was remembering the date as before 2000 for some reason...nence my confusion about his full name...correctly stated by Gray above)

I have the "Roger Troutman II - The Second Coming" CD, purchased it about a year ago. I think I may have played it only once, don't recall there being anything on there that interested me enough to play it again. It wasn't awful, but I just wasn't all that impressed. I'm sure I'll give it another listen at some point in the near future, mostly prompted by this thread. Sometimes, certain CD's need the time to grow on me.

If you have Mint Condition's Definition of A Band you have. He's on

Funky Weekend. He was also in a early incarnation of the band. MC

had vintage pictures on their website a few years ago when E Life

was out. I do remember one song that Roger Lynch had out several

years ago.
