How overrated is Beyonce?!

[I based this thread off of Beyonce being brought up on my other thread asking how "How Overrated Lady Gaga" is. I think it's only fair to do one on her too. After that, I'm done with the whole "overrated artist topics"......................................for now lol ]

Honestly, I've listened to enough Beyonce to say that I really don't see her appeal outside of her looks. The only songs I've liked by her are:

"Crazy In Love"....

...uh, that's pretty much about it.

Now I will give "Put A Ring On It" props for being an obviously catchy track, but I Don't like it enough to hear it more than once...

Now with that being said, why is her music career so big, when her actual "music" is really weird & unsatisfying? When I hear her music, I always get the feeling that she's really trying hard to be something she is not. On top of that, I actually physically get sick when I hear too much of her music in one sitting.

I know some you might love her, but other than her being really really REALLY attractive, I'm not picking up what she's putting down...

Personally, all of her music from her first album to her latest basically, sound the same. Granted that some songs stand out, I just wonder why I never hear anyone really mention anything about it.

I agree with you. Mostly all of her stuff does sound the same...and it's mostly all pretty weak too...

I think I've already made it clear where I stand on Beyonce, and I refuse to argue back and forth on the internet about it (or anything else, for that matter)....

Speaking truthfully, I think she may be slightly overrated---as anyone is who receives massive amounts of adulation. No one can live up to that hype.

But, I think the people who constantly dog her and her skills are way off base. I mean, if you can pull any random performer, put them on stage and have them do what Beyonce does as well as or better than she does... then do it and show me. I want to see this uber talented person who has Beyonce's singing ability, dancing ability, overall stage prescence & performance ability and yes, looks... I wanna see them. Seriously!

A lot is said about Beyonce's songs being bad. That may or may not be true. That's so subjective, though... there's many hit songs by various artists that I hate!! But, they resonate with people for whatever reason. Sometimes, I just don't hear why they are hits, but I just accept that it's not for me and move on. In the case of Beyonce, "Me, Myself and I" is one of my favorite songs and I probably enjoy about 70% of her other material as well.

Personally I don't think any artist is over rated, because no matter how many people love you, a whole lot of people are gonna hate you.

I DEFINITELY think an artist can be HIGHLY overrated. You can't really tell me every artist truly deserves the coverage they get, That's why the music industry is so messed up now. That's why we'll easily download somebodies album before we waste our money on it....

Well it just really bothers me when people are so up and arms about artists being popular. I don't like Justin Bieber at all, but I wouldn't call him over rated or say too many people like him because so many people hate him just for the fact that he is popular.

Great post and that's how I feel when a discussion like this happens. I don't have to like someone, but different strokes for different folks. If they are popular, good for them. And people always talk about celebs being overexposed, well for me, a celeb can be as overexposed as I let them. Even with my fave, Beyoncé(since she's topic of discussion), there are times when I don't listen to her music. Why because I choose whether I like an entertainer's product or whatever. If I see a Magazine with an celeb that I am not a fan of, it's my choice to read it or not.

I don't think she's overrated. She's a pop star who has the means to put on a big production and has a decent voice that can pull of a "stripped down" show.

Oversaturated doesn't equal overrated. Lady Gaga is overrated on her creativity and genius, but if she "stripped down", she would still deliver a show.

To me, someone who's overrated is when they're embraced by critics as being amazing and convincing you it's something you must own, yet you hear it and go "what's the big deal?"

Beyonce has a track record of delivering a good show, but see her up on stage with Tina Turner, and she looks like an amateur.

I can't really say she's overrated so much as over-exposed.

Honestly, she is talented. If you hear her you really can't say with a straight face that she can't sing.

And she seems to have her finger on the pulse, or have some kind of knack for creating songs that a lot of women can relate to, I think that's the draw as well. And guys like her because she's beautiful.

Personally though most of her music has always left me cold because I just can't relate to it at all. I've tried to listen to her stuff and get into it and I just can't, I'm more of a Fiona Apple girl.

Each of these ridiculous topics can be written off by simply stating that most people whining about something that is mostly subjective being "overrated" really mean "I'm extremely saddened that a substantial amount of people like something I don't. PLEASE AGREE WITH ME!"

Do some of you guys no the meaning of "overrated" because based on these comments I see some of you dont. An artist can be overrated and still be talented.

Its takes no rocket science theory to know that Beyonce is overrated. And like someone said before this is a tired topic but it has just gotten to the point where it is just ridiculous now.

The REASON why she is overrated is because she is constantly deemed as a legend or icon which means MORE than what she has exactly done for the music industry. She is JUST a pop act but the media is depress to find that icon because the industry is crap now so they have given her that title BUT she does not deserve and hasnt done anything to deserve it. Those words mean an artist has contributed something or change the world of music. No I am not going to sit up and say the girl cant sing which seems to be the ONLY arguement for Beyonce here which is an excuse. HOWEVER, she is NOT original, she does NOT write any of her music (like accolades claim). She has NOT invented or innovated anything in the music industry, she can put on a show but she is NOT a great dancer like some of her previous peers before her and ALL her music sounds the same and she hasnt produce one track that is a classic. I just think its sickening how people put her in the same category as Michael Jackson, Tina Turner etc ALL the time when she is just a mediocre best artist that stays safe with her music and copies her performances.. she not original at all..

So yes Beyonce has a descent singing voice but that does not mean she is NOT overrated. She has received made awards and meaningless awards her entire career for putting out garbage and for not doing anything for the industry. She is the perfect example as to why awards dont mean anything today and how popularity will get you anything even if ur music is crap.

NOPE because I don't pay no attention to it but I am not blinded by the media neither. LOL Just healthy conversation nothing serious but I guess everyone takes everything serious in here LOL

There are some songs Beyonce has made that I exactly find OKAY but that DONT make her no legend. WTF? She is okay to me not that impressive. Her singing talent can easily be compared on the same level as I like Monica or Toni Braxton that doesnt mean their legends and there not as nearly as overrated as Beyonce but I personally think they both sing much better and have better music.

You don't have to agree with anything I feel about this artist what so ever. That was never my point [these are just risk I take asking these questions lol ]. The whole "overrated" thing is ones matter of opinion . If I wanted you to agree with me, I probably would have went the opposite direction with this question due to her popularity. When someone becomes a big star, I often wonder what dirt they did to get there. If it was all about talent, The stars of today would be totally different....

I'm not saying that Beyonce is not an icon [the people have already made her that], but I often question why of all people she is one [just as I do with other artist] when musically, she takes no risk.

Im basically reposting this:

What talent??????????????????????????????

do you realize you can go to any HBCU and find black girls with that "Talent" you keep saying she has. Its NOT so much. Beyonce is a mediocre dancer at best, she great at booty shaking and coochie poppin, I hear her sing live during that performance and it was okay, she actually didn't sound that great which is why she stop singing the background vocals. lol

im just SICK and tired of hearing people say she has so much talent and is not using it.

I posted some videos from 2006, before beyonce single ladies, and i believe beyonce gets all her stuff from other people.

i repeat: "you could take any of these black girls from an HBCU and give them the "beyonce treatment" (songs, marketing, videos, image) and they be deemed just as "talented" a beyonce."

She is not extraordinary.

I just dont understand why people say she's so multitalented. Sure, she's a great singer, but her dancing is forgetable, her acting is laughable. The only thing she's really good at is performing on stage and singing. Also, Her songwriting/production skills have also been called out for being frauds..

She is not overrated because she does have talent and she can legitmately sing but she is just overexposed.

Beyonce makes us music purists frustrated because she is doing trendy music that won't last and with the voice she has she could've been the 2000's Celine Dion.

I think we can all unianimously agree that she just needs a break. I think overexposure is one of the reasons why haters hate her. She's losing her momentum and the public isn't as curious about her anymore.
