The Spinners on Unsung

Tomorrow, The Spinners' story would be broadcast on "Unsung". You think they'd do a better job with that story than they did with Niecy and at least talk about how the group's lineup changed as quickly as a new installation of a Cadillac? lol

I think about 15 members left before they became superstars in the '70s.

I'm kinda fearing a rose-colored glasses episode (like they've done with most of the "Unsung" episodes)...

Im fearing the same thing as well. I love the show but to me they dont go deep enough. I thought the Unsung episode with the Ojays was too whitewashed but the one with Musical Youth was entertaining.
Hopefully they have more access from the archives of their live performances not just footage from a Soul Train appearance.

UGH, you know they could've BROUGHT THE DRAMA with the O'Jays version and instead it became so corny I shook my head. I mean I love the O'Jays but their story could've been better told. It was decent until after the death of William Powell. neutral

And I agree about the footage. Loved the Musical Youth one...

Yeah the episode is about to end. It was alright, but I expected more. The living original members still look really great today. I kind've cried seeing John Edwards...ugh! Just balling my eyes out at the end. But overall, it was an okay episode. I already knew 85% of the information that was given in this episode and I was left wanting more details. Great to see Thom Bell and G.C. Cameron as well. They look great as well.

Yeah. Even though they don't fit the "Unsung" category, it was pretty interesting to finally see a special done on them. But you can tell that TV One was just using them for ratings and more attention, kinda like what they did for The O'Jays last year.

But I'm I the only one who is dying to see Alexander O'Neal and Cherelle next week? Cherelle's husband was killed? Her classic 1988 release, Affair was largely based on her divorce. Something tells me that's gonna be a eye-opener for sure.

This was one of the more enjoyable episodes i've seen in a minute.

They had a great run on Atlantic with Thom Bell and Linda Creed.

Yeah Motown was doing that to many of their acts on the roster. The only difference with The Detroit Spinners is that they didn't take off big during that time and they were just there on Motown. They had a few successful singles on Motown, but they didn't really get the ball running until their run at Atlantic and the rest is history.

Oh and the wigs and guitars were just part of their performances during their earlier years...funny when you look at what they were doing at that time to get exposure and attention. lol

I had never actually heard it said before, ever. So I just assumed ...

Than, I hear somebody say "Philippé" I'm like they had a Puerto Rican in the group.

Ralph from New Edition said no one ever pronounced his name right either. lol It's not "Tres vant", but "Tray'vont". Ricky's name is actually Ricardo Bell.
