What I Don't Like About D'Angelo

Why is that everytime they ask him about every dead high profile artists(Jimi Or Marvin) he's like "I don't like 2 talk about them becoz I see them when I look at the mirror, like they're standing behind me" WTF??? I mean I like the movie the 6th sense but this is soo corny yo.

And why does the brutha have 2 act like Prince?? Its ok 2 be highly influenced by him(hey most of Prince's fans are) but act like him?? I was reading couple of interviews done by him were he refused 2 take photo shoots(I can anderstand that) and he refused 2 record his interview on tape?? LOL Even ?uestlove was laughing at him saying that "pulling Prince huh??".

I got much love 4 the brutha and I must be crazy if I didn't respect his shit. But 2 be honest?? He really gets on my last nerve when he tries 2 front and act all fake. Like,,why?? I mean lol this is sooo embarrassing.

Every Major Artist plays up themselves&Fronts to a Large Extinct on some levels.D'Angelo got Suckered into that same Front that Cost Terrence Trent D'arby His Run.that kind of thng Worked for Prince but that was a different time&whatnot&it's also come back to Bite Him in alot of ways as well.People think too Highly of themselves too soon&start to truly believe there Press Clippings.but so many Acts try to really lay it on&can't Cash another Hit&they know it but they want to Milk up that Moment.

D's no fake, whether it's weed talking or not when he says he channels Marvin etc I'm pretty certin he at least believes it.

As for that tired "Prince-biter" tag, you know you read that in a magazine. Aside from "Untitled", a cover of "Always In My Hair" and arguably "Send It On" how many songs can you list of D's that show a major Prince influence? Of course he'll of sucked up quirks from all his idols but I'm saying...

Naw,,,that ain't what I'm talking about. Its alright 2 be "influenced" by the brutha when it comes 2 yo music. Hell, I'd rather 2 hear someone pay a fine tribute 2 Prince but FOOLISHLY TRY HARD 2 act like him?? Thats a bit sad.

Thats what I'm talking about,,D is a baaad ass on them instruments(Esp Keyboards) not that great when it comes 2 writing lyrics but he sho is bad when he play them keys and a fine vocalist too. He should focus on that otherwise ppl will ignore him 4 weak ass Musiq or maybe Bilal.

I think that he focus on his image mo' than his music which is a damn shame. I just hope he realizes at a certin point that its all "HollyWood" and I hope he realizes that very soon cuz ppl won't always support him esp when he front like crazy. The REALNESS is the only thing that lasts.

Your saying he's trying to act like P because of the no tape in interviews thing? It may be influenced by Prince maybe not... what else?

As for the "all about the image" thing that's only come from his naked Untitled video which is both a blessing and curse admittedly. The cat lives and breathes for his music.

Your right that sadly during the lengthy breaks he takes between albums, the music world slots a a pale immitation like Musiq into his place as if he's even on the same level.

The Voodoo tour needed to be documented with the live album and video that never were. Would have filled the gap before next LP nicely, I saw his UK date at Brixton Acadamey.

D'angelo feels what he feels I guess. I know what your tryin 2 say & yeah who doesn't know how close he digs on Prince Marvin, Donny, etc...Thats more or less how he feels he gotta B on them subjects at the present.

Does certain things "D" does feel like it was just lifted off Prince or who ever at times... of course. But he's a growing artist not even in his thirtys yet. Give him time 2 grow and learn more about himself & make them natural changes that come with time.

When U been heavy marinated by all your influences as in his case or even Kravitz sometimes it takes alonger time 2 slip out of them skins... But these artist will always carry the the flava of those they love.

He's one of the best live shows when he tours~

Nah they're done, ?uest said as much in Vibe magazine. Apparently D jerked The Roots around in failing to turn up to do the guest vocal on "Break You Off". Alludes to it in Phrenology's liner notes, apparently Musiq was their eleventh (or something similar) choice on that joint.

LOL well, thats their lose only. I don't think that D lost anything that much.

D hasn't jammed with Prince in recent years, probably in no small part to the Voodoo liner notes/interview with Beck, so I don't know he'd get on ONA live.

Musiq got the "Break You Off" gig after like ten other names pulled out in addition to D so he ain't really stepping up there either. hehe

I mean I anderstand being very "in love" with your Idol's persona and I can expect someppl(fools) 2 act like their idols but don't they get tired at some point?? Hell, I know I would.

Your saying he's trying to act like P because of the no tape in interviews thing? It may be influenced by Prince maybe not... what else?

As for the "all about the image" thing that's only come from his naked Untitled video which is both a blessing and curse admittedly. The cat lives and breathes for his music.

Your right that sadly during the lengthy breaks he takes between albums, the music world slots a a pale immitation like Musiq into his place as if he's even on the same level.
well Musiq,etc.. come from that ?Love factory that hopefully D'Angelo will break free from from what I Heard.

D and ?uest ain't cool anymore, his partner in crime is Raphael Saadiq moreso now.

The Soulquarian vibe ain't the be all and end all to his music, "Brown Sugar" was done without them.

As I believe, they don't have beef. They just grew on different types of approachs thats all. I think that artist grow musicaly. Plus, I read is couple of articles that they're "cool"

It ain't that deep.

And wassup with Musiq? Is it me or is he replacing D on every event he miss?? I heard many rumors about D'Angelo being a guest artist in ONA Live but instead it Musiq. Now the same thang with the roots.

D hasn't jammed with Prince in recent years, probably in no small part to the Voodoo liner notes/interview with Beck, so I don't know he'd get on ONA live.

Musiq got the "Break You Off" gig after like ten other names pulled out in addition to D so he ain't really stepping up there either. hehe

Thats a relief cuz I know I'd go nuts if that rumor was true.

Could it be a non-direct aim at D'Angelo?? I mean I ain't try to put the brutha down but Musiq is totaly avarage ya know?? He's just another cat from Philly pulling the same Philly soul shit and that it ain't deep. He's kinda overrated if you ask me and I won't be supriced if there're ppl backing him up(I'm sure there're).

I don't hate him,,,matta o' fact I respect him 4 his work. Plus, the butha got alot of love and respect 4 his sistas and you could sense it in his music. Adding 2 that he's a positive cat who's not pulling a thug ass image 2 sell which is good.

What I'm saying is, Musiq is too fast 4 his own good and that may hurt him. Beside,,there're betta cats than him who needs more attintion than him and D'Angelo is one of them.
