THE DREAM: New Princely Audio Tracks

The Dream is kicking major booty with these two songs...

The first one is titled 'Body Work' and it segues into 'Fuck My Brains Out'.

Both songs have a very Prince vibe to them as The Dream uses a lot of Prince like drum sounds/ideas.

I'm looking forward to reading the thoughts of some of you music listeners. Now for the Prince fans who have already deemed these songs to be poor even prior to listening to them, feel free to start your own thread.

I gotta say, the second of the two songs is really exciting... the keyboard fuzzy bass line is killing and those lyrics, which I believe are about his ex-wife Christina Milian (another Prince head), are nasty and kinda clever. Great melody + + cool lyrics + great different sounding music = what Prince used to do for me.

Kinda reminds me of Andre Cymone's A.C. album. Sounds interesting.

Why do all these pro-tools cats want to sound like Prince? At this point, making Prince inspired music, is kinda played out. And no I'm not going to even bother seeking out The Dreams record and evaluating it. I know without listening to it, that it's gimmicky.

Oh my GOD....

These sound exactly like Prince outtakes or something. Wow. "Bodywork" sounds like it would fit on "1999". I love it, it's my favorite of the two.

I should've known this guy had it in him though - didn't he do that song "Ride" for Ciara? And I was obsessed with that song for a couple weeks.

I look at it like, they picked absolutely the perfect guy to copy musically lol . I rather hear a bunch of musicians/artists emulate him than some non-talented jackass.

Protools cats? This guy and Tricky Stewart wrote an American classic recently - Umbrella for Rihanna.

This guy has been killing for a while son... it ain't 1984 kid.

The Dream is making music for today while Prince is writing Prince inspired music that just doesn't hit anymore.

i like The Dream, i think he's very talented, underrated and maybe a card or two short of a full deck. P is a good one to copy or be inspired by. and i don't think his recent output is awful like ppl make it seem. Lotus was excellent, & his ballads from PE - 20Ten have been stellar! I won't even mention his guitar work, or Sticky or Dance 4 Me, ooop. i just did, i digress, but yeah, The Dream went back in time for these tracks. i wonder if they'll manifest on a whole "retro vibe" album

he's kind of a shitty singer. i appreciate the Prince influence but he just doesn't have the vocal chops to pull it off. the falsetto is just NOT THERE.

That's true, Prince has had a lot of good moments musically in recent years. I love "Beginning Endlessly".

Ok, so then why is he making PRINCELY AuDIO TRACKS????? biggrin Why is he not making The Dream tracks? Oh yeah, that's right, because he is pretty much a one trick autotune producer.

...I don't think a talentless one trick autotune producer could produce stuff this Prince-like. lol

The Prince-sounding stuff you're hearing from The Dream is not produced by him. It's produced by LOS Da Mystro. Haven't listened to these ones yet, but the stuff on the last album he did like "Yamaha" etc were all LOS productions.

Autotune? Where on these tracks do you hear autotune?

Anyhow, I'm going to stop dignifying silly comments like these.

His music is certainly Prince inspired just like Prince's music was directly influenced by Sly and Stevie.

I also said, "I don't think", right before that.

Let's not put words in my mouth, k thanks. wink

If you don't like The Dream or his work, fine - but I don't share your views.

I always said that The-Dream princely songs are blends of prince and andre cymone. I hear a little of Andre in this song along with "fast car" and others.

For real?

You don't hear all that "1999", "Purple Rain" era synth stuff? The Linn-drum beat stuff? eek

There's been times where people would say this or that artist or producer's work was Prince-influenced, and usually I never hear it - this is the first time where I immediately heard it, it hit me in the face. I'm listening to this stuff again right now, I can't get enough of it. lol

To me these songs are actually the first time I've heard a musician successfully emulate Prince's style - at some points he had the style down so good, it's almost eerie.

Yeah, I'm not saying that vocally he sounds like Prince, he doesn't - although to me, he actually does have a good voice...which I know a lot of you disagree with, so I'm probably going to get slaughtered for saying that. boxed lol

I think the drums on the first track is a slowed and looped sample of the intro from She's Always In My Hair
