Thanks Harlepolis! Months ago you were going on about how great Enchantment are, especially the lead singer. I finally checked them out and I am hooked! I loooove Sunshine. The dude sings his ass off! Did they have a lot of success or did they fall to the backburner? I never really heard of them before... Enchantment was a HOT group for a minute in 1976-77. They brought the attention of Detroit soul back to the R&B mainstream for a good minute after Motown had moved out of Detroit and most of the Detroit groups was either performing for Philly International, Stax or Los Angeles.

You're more than welcome
E.J. Johnson is my fave falsetto singer of all times, his voice is heavenly and makes for a great afternoon listening. I think "Its You That I Need" from their second album was their only #.1 hit(R&B) but the rest of their songs that haven't been released are as great if not greater IMO.
I even love the funky gems from Enchanted Lady & Utopia(I think those albums were produced by the same guy who produced O'Bryan).

2 of my fave tracks from both-mentioned albums
My pc is currently not playing youtube, but iirc, i think this brief tv-moment below features a rare appearance during Enchantment's "Utopia" album, performing "Here's Your Chance"
The great Michael Stokes produced "Utopia". I think he is or was either family-related or married to singer Linda Stokes from Magic Lady, for which Michael also produced.
Raymond Reid and William Anderson from Crown Heights Affair produced the "Enchanted Lady" album. "Only You" (posted above) is imo a good example of their production-sound. Larkin Arnold produced on that project as well.

^^Yep He produced Magic Lady too. Matter o' fact, he's all over the Detroit R&B scene from 82-84, most of which he produced remained obscure though but still worth tracking down.

The way E.J. wails at the end of Give It Up reminds eerily of Angela Winbush. Like her, he too had the ability to naturally control his singing to a great degree.

... and i still wanna check this production (from around 1979) by him as well ...
I was floored hearing "Give It Up" for the first time. He indeed lifts up that song to a higher atmosphere.

OMG, you're right! I never thought of that before. He does have incredible control. It's weird too...sometimes he sounds like a woman singing in a high range and other times he sounds like a man singing falsetto. I just love his voice though. Did he do anythng after they broke up? Harlepolis is indeed great. One of these days, I'm gonna take her in the back room and give her a night to remember. Andy is a four letter word.
