Joss Stone's Latest Project, LP1

May 5, 2011

Joss Stone has revealed plans surrounding her forthcoming album.

Stone is due to release her fifth studio album on July 26, following a three-year break during which she pursued her acting career on the TV series The Tudors.

The project will serve as the follow-up to 2009's Color Me Free!, which only managed to peak at number 75 on the UK album chart, although it did give Stone her second top ten record in the US.

The singer posted an image earlier today on her official Facebook page, which seems to confirm the album title as LP1. It is not yet known whether the image posted will be the official album artwork or if it's just a concept photo.

The record will be Stone's first independent release and will be distributed via her own record label Stone'd Records following her departure from EMI last summer.

The album was produced by Eurythmics star David A. Stewart, who has previously worked with the likes of Mick Jagger, Ringo Starr and Katy Perry.

I was hoping she was going to work with Betty Wright again.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

What precisely are you referring to? Were there reports of a fallout?

I really liked "Fell in Love with a Boy". Still do.

But every time I think of her I always think of how Nikka Costa does the same type of music, but wayyyyyyyyyyy better.

May 2011

Press release:

Stone'd Records & Surfdog Records are proud to announce their partnership to release Joss Stone's next album, LP1 on July 26, 2011.

As a world-renowned soul singer who Smokey Robinson calls "Aretha Joplin," Joss has sold over 11 million records globally. Having just turned 24, Joss has already amassed a career's worth of successes. She is a Grammy winner, five-time Grammy nominee, and the recipient of several Brit Awards.

Stone recently established her own label, Stone’d Records, and has partnered with Surfdog to release LP1. This is the first album Joss has recorded with total creative freedom.

She co-wrote and co-produced it with super-producer and Eurythmics co-founder, Dave Stewart. Together they immersed themselves into a rock n' soul musical odyssey in Nashville, Tennessee, finishing LP1 in only six days.

"This is the most fun I’ve ever had making a record with Crazy Dave Stewart at the helm, and yes the players in Nashville are unbelievable!!!" says Stone. “This album captures a specific moment in time that was spontaneous and full of creativity."

"Joss can sing with the ferocity of a lioness and dynamically switch to the most delicate whisper in the same phrase," says Stewart. "She is always honest and full of real emotion. It is an honor to work alongside a true artist who understands so much at such a young age."

...With what? You thought I'd go on some "Joss Sucks!" tirade or try to turn this into "Nikka vs Joss"? No, it doesn't run that deep for me. I don't have anything against Joss, she's not hurting anybody. And she's cute as hell, seems sweet, and I do actually own her first disc. I'd gladly hear her constantly on the radio compared to a lot of the other people putting out music right now (Nicki Minaj wtf?).

But I adore Nikka and vocally she's damn near un-fuck-witable.

Right?! lol

I like to see who's the Elvis, Jerry Lee and Buddy Holly in this scenario.

And comparing Joss to Pat Boone is LOW. That dude did a schmaltz tribute to heavy metal! HEAVY FUCKIN' METAL! I've yet to see Joss embarrass herself like that! evillol

Joss emerged in like 2002. Duffy came in 2008.

Joss has genunine respect for R&B and soul music and it shows in her music how much she loves the old school soul music.

Joss's voice sounding black thing is getting old it did help her appeal but a lot of people have looked past that and just foucs on how she delivers her songs.

Joss Stone has a one dimension way of singing she is like Alicia Keys where every song she sings she blows her voice away and does the same warrbling.

Her fellow Brtis counterparts like Adele and Amy Winehouse have long surpassed her and in a league of their own.

To tell you the truth I am looking forward to her new album because even though she is one dimenison singer she still manages to stay true to her musicianship and never sold out.

I don't really pay too much attention to her but hasn't that line been said about every album since the debut? I'm sure I've heard before how the new album is the "real" Joss Stone. She's got a great voice but her material is just not very compelling.
