I like how Ralph sings over Rick's little rap at the end LOL.
Yes, very bizarre, and as you said, Ralphs normal voice on this sounds awful when compared to the record.
As it's slightly re-arranged, I wonder if this is the mix before Arthur Baker got involved?

His falsetto is to weak when he sings the chourus and they took too long to begin the song. It looks like an audition tape, it's fun to watch. Jeux Sans Frontiers

I agree with both of you. They had their dance moved down pat but vocals needed some work still...I dont know who told him to try falcetto on here, but nevertheless it is a great watch. Ralph better worq for his hair part with the s-curl waves, HUNNY! Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Ralph......could NEVER sing.

They tried to make the album version sound like a J5 song - that's always been the obvious. I never thought Tresvant's voice was anything like MJ's anyways (young or old).

I do NOT like this altervative mix of Candy Girl at all.
Yes, the vocals are weak. But the real problem were the musical arrangement for this audition tape. It's totally wack. I like the both album version & the video mix way better:

THIS is ultra rare NE footage, singing a capella!
And according to my thread from a year or so ago Ralph was the weakest and whackest R&B frontman ever, which is the real reason why (1) MCA didn't really want to release that solo album of his back in 1987, (2) NE never received the so called props a lot of people think they deserve, and (3) this is probably the ONLY group ever where ALL the members enjoyed more success after they "broke up" and started doing their own thing.

100% true in my book. | |

I do not agree. While he was not the best vocalist in the group, he was the 'voice' of New Edition. Had Bobby or Ricky sung those songs he had as lead, like Diana to the Supremes, Slim to 112...they would not have had that certain 'sound' to them. Really at the end of the day it is the voice that holds the group together, and helps compliment the other better vocalists. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
