Jessie J - Price Tag pop with a message or message for profit?

With 99 million views, I know its popular but is this a bit of pop rebellion ala Lupe Fiasco's "Words I Never Said" or Esthero's "We R In Need of A Musical Revolution" or is this just faux rebellion manufactured by the label to try to move a few units?

What do you think?

I'm speaking of content.

Do you think she's the "real deal" or is she just another image-driven pop product with a faux-outrage message to trick people into digging her "anti-establishment" message while all along being part of the major label hustle to squeeze more dough from consumers?

I haven't heard any of her other material. Is this a constant for her or is this just image for one song?

I have her debut, and this is the only song that discusses this topic, so, I believe she's the real deal not some puppet and her vocals, especially on a live track on her album'big white room' are amazing biggrin!

Actually her debut album covers positivity and some love tunes....she has pop r&b and some reggae/hip hop style tracks.....acoustically she is a beast IMO....the studio version does her NO justice at all....I started a thread about her a few months ago but no one was interested....I think she is talented but needs to really not release another album that sounds so over produced....she really can blow if you like that style of singing.

The girl can sing her ass off, that's all that really matters. Why engage in some kind of intense analysis and speculation on her message and her motives.

She makes pop music. It's not supposed to change the world anyway. It's supposed to just make you feel good and wanna dance.

Why? Because this is a discussion board, that's why.

Since when was music not supposed to change the world? Is that what you have been formatted to believe these days? Its the dream of MANY, MANY musicians to change the world with their music.

I don't know her and perhaps I'm late to the game but that is basically what I was asking. Do people think she's a pop revolutionary or just another pop princess wearing a revolutionary mask?

I'll investigate her work later but for now, this is the only song I've heard by her.

Its just a question.

I made a thread about Jessie J a few months ago now. I knew about her before Do it Like a Dude was even getting ready for release as she's been about the 'underground' in the UK for some time. This is how I discovered her. Trust me. Wow.

My co-worker sent me this clip and was HOOKED EMIDGETLEEEEE!!!!! lol

My favorite is the acoustic version of "do it like a dude" she is wearing a sky blue sweater top....after viewing these two I went searching for any clip on the web show casing her different style...I bought the album the next day even after reading reviews that the album gave her voice no justice.....If she comes back to NY I'm gonna be all over that show.

Don't know how to post videos or I would be posting everything on this chic!

Argue? I started a thread. YOU asked why I asked what I did. I explained it. If there was an argument, YOU initiated it. If you have nothing to contribute to the convo, please bounce.

Deuces.

She's got a good voice. Do you know if she writes her own songs or if someone else does?

She got in to the biz as a songwriter and was (unfortunately) involved in writing Miley's "Party in the USA". She's also written songs for Alicia Keys and Chris Brown, to name a few.

Yep as Venus said, she is a talented songwriter. I'm just waiting for someone to say 'Yeah she can sing good, yeah she writes her own stuff BUT *TROLL*' lol

And I actually think as far as a pop song goes, 'Party in the USA' is kinda alright lol

Ah, so she came in like Missy and Keri Hilson (and so many others). Cool. Its always good when songwriters finally get their time in the sun. There are so many talented songwriters who can sing as well but end up ghostwriting for other artists because of industry politics.

I'm gonna check out some more of her material.
