Andy's Funky 70s Mix

I tell ya, I'm mad as hell tonight y'all. Not one, but both my my CD players wanted to act a damn fool tonight. They're finally playing out on me and are on their last legs. Well, I guess they've lived their life, I've had 'em since 2001. Yeah, I've got two turntables but it is so much easier to just go in the computer, burn two identical CDs, put them in the CD players and go ta mixin' instead of diggin' through stacks of records. Plus, since the CD age and the downloading age, I've acquired so much more funk on CDs than vinyl, although I have lots of vinyl.

Anyway, those damn CD players were acting such a fool tonight, honey I felt like Wonder Woe-man trying to beat a timer on a bomb while I was cueing songs and when I FINALLY would get the song cued, my frustration would affect the flow of the mix when I would slide the crossfader.

Anyway, it was too damn good of a tracklist to let go to waste so here's the mix in all it's pissed off glory. It's still better than anything these tired asses on the radio these days are doing. lol

We used to have our own little mini Minneapolis scene going on down here and that was just the funk bands. Since then, there's been tons of blues artists.

I love the blues but sometimes you can have too much of one thing until you get sick of it. We had a mini-funk scene in NC too but like you, it's all blues or country or beach music. rolleyes lol You know how we Carolinians get with beach music. YEECH! lol

Well, its not exactly Mississippi but ever since you dropped the "Libra" bomb on me two years ago. I've been glueing my ears to whatever I could find from that HCRC label, thats how I came to find out about Margie Joseph's "Knockout"(I didn't know she recorded an album in 1982 prior to finding out about "Ride This Pony").

Lemme tell you something, every single shit I heard from that label is a gym's wet dream drool well, my version of gym anyway rolleyes because if I hear Akon & Rihanna blasting through the sound system one more time, I'm gonna commit battery in this motherfucker wall

I liked a lot of the local blues back in the early 1980s but they have worn the blues scene out since then. Lots of older people down here, and some younger people also, have gotten to the point that they listen to only blues and nothing else. It started in the early 1990s when more and more shit hop started taking over the R&B stations and people started turning their dials over to the blues station and leaving them there. Being gay, I at least had the house music scene for a few more years until acid and trance had to come in and ruin that. When that ended, I didn't switch to the blues station, I just pulled out my old records and said the hell with current music.

But the blues they are making isn't the same anymore either. I see they've started using some of those same shit hop sounding drum machines in their music lately. But for decades, the blues artists always seemed to sound ten years behind the times anyway. Next decade, I guess they'll be using whatever Lady Gaga uses in her music. lol

But the thing with Libra's "Ride This Pony", is it became totally forgotten after the summer of 1982. We had three R&B stations back then and only the FM one played it and they didn't play it many times. I heard it in one of the skating rinks about twice and that was it. I don't know why that one didn't catch on. Years later in recent years, I just happened to be browsing on some funk blog somewhere that wasn't even in English but recognized the song title so I downloaded it.

I think it was only a single. It would be cool as hell if there was an album with that joint.
