Album version is better IMO, it has more of the Jam & Lewis sound to it. That video version is actually the edited 12" version, I remember back in 88' when I was nine picking up this 12" from the wrecka stow with my little allowance money, good times!!

But seriously, this song is better than any song by Backstreet, NSync, NKOTB, etc. I have always wondered why they did not become more famous and can only assume negative things but for the sake of keeping this thread in this forum, I will not speak on that.

I also loved N.E. Heartbreak

The album version is way better. It's one of my favorites. I may be the only person who thinks it's a better song than "Can You Stand the Rain."

LayDownMisty, N.E. were R&B superstars in their day, but even though they managed to have some crossover success (most notably with "Cool It Now"), the splinter acts became even bigger from a crossover POV (especially Bobby and BBD).

I knwo I wished all their tours were somewhere. I have the Home Again bootleg dvd and Ricky wasnt there for some odd reason..I think ti was him.

My mom told me she went to see them after the All For Love album was released...I would have loved to see them sing some of their hits right there at the height of their career (imagine them singing Sweet Thing )

Album version. Probably my favorite song on an album full of smashes. I played their "Past & Present" vhs to death growing up. Still watch it about once or twice a month nowadays.

LOL I still have their old 80's VHS comp somewhere? Itr was OK, but it edited the hell out of some of the videos, though it was cool to see Jam and Lewis working behind them when the guys were being interviewed LOL. But it was frustrating when they teased with clips from the tour LOL.

Some of the clips from youtube must be from that video...I never seen it do not believe...however I have always hated that live 12" remix version of Crucial

I LOVE this version, way more than the one on the album.

And every time I listen to this track, I imagine Bobby singing/performing it, circa 1989. Sounds just like him to me, and would have fit perfectly on his second album.

The remix is alright, but I do like the original version more...it doesnt sound so hip hop influenced..hence more dated than it should be.

The climax of the song on the original just sounds more banging. The video was awesome though.

The Crucial remix I dont like either because of too much hip hop influence...I mean I know New Edition always had their one song stab at hip hop like School, Pass The Beat and Kinda Girls We Like but it just took away from the original composition imo.

The originals ..to me have more of a timeless sound...as in you can play it 10, 20 years from now and it still sounds fresh. Dated as in ...play it once and it sounds so cheap and trendy like for it's time that I don't care to play it again for a long time. It was like they were trying hard to appeal to the kids of that era.

Oh, I know what "dated" means, I just don't see how it's a negative. "Be My Baby" sounds very much of its time. So what? It's still fantastic. A good song is a good song regardless of one's ability to discern its era (IMO of course).

Oh I know what you mean...it is just songs like "Hanging Tough" NKOTB or "Pop" by N Sync that sound like they tried really hard to fit in and it sounds dated...I agree with you ...music is music weather it is from 90 BC to Today..if it is good it's good. I just thought the originals have a lasting play quality and didnt sound like they were trying really hard to fit in.
