68 year old Barry Manilow notches Top 10 album of all new material

Almost 40 years since his debut Barry Manilow enters the Top 10 at Number 7 with "15 Minutes" his amazing new critically acclaimed album of all new material for the first time since 2001. Moving 36,000 units it should be noted that sales from Manilow's site werent tracked and also his deal with QVC giving them a LTD edition also werent tracked for these sales. An Excellent acheivement in this age of selling records now, Manilow continues his run in Vegas but is booking new shows in NYC and around the world for one stop shows for the first time in nearly a decade. I wonder what star of today will be charted a top 10 album of new material at age 68?

Barry Manilow's main audience is less likely to download and more likely to buy a CD, the same as the people who buy Rod Stewart's American Songbook albums.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

but all of that is very important. Also this is new material and clearly with any older artist that tours alot there is a drop off with Ticket Sales and with new album sales, also Manilow has had astring of half a dozen cover, duets, and xmas cds so to jump back into the top 10 with new stuff is not a simple thing to do, also being an indie artist now too, id say this album probably moved 2-3 times what they said it sold with website and qvc editions factored in.

I still like the old Manilow songs from the 70s. And I ain't afraid to say it! lol I'll check this LP out, since it has new material.

In general, like with most things, the older audience isn't really being marketed to, and in some cases people don't know that older acts are still recording. That's why some like Barry find alternate ways of promotion.
