Al Green - Belle
Simply one of the most perfect songs I've ever heard. Everything in this song just comes together in just the right way for me.
I seem to be drawn to tragic lyrics, and this is surely one of the most unusual: Al choosing the Lord over the beautiful object of his desire ("It's you I want, but it's Him that I need!"). Harsh, possibly, but if it keeps the grits away.... "Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced." - James Baldwin

Nice live version from 1978:

I was playing Al Green over the holiday and Belle' came up on the iPod. There's not much Green has ever recorded I haven't liked. Yes, this is a perfect song, love it!!! Thanks for posting it, the Tube needs a damn repeat button seriously.

I love this cut and this underrated album! I find it so profound that Al was able to beautifully accept God over any woman. It's one of the most revealing songs I've ever heard in my life. Check me out and add me on:

Yeah, there isn't much in the Rev's back catalogue that doesn't hit the spot - especially the Hi albums.
Feels Like Summer is another mellow classic from Al's first album without the great Willie Mitchell handling production duties.

Parts a love song, parts a gospel song, parts of a revelation = it's all great.
