I don't think anyone here gives a squat about the grounds of the civil case. lol I think everyone is too outraged at someone being beatdown and the police taking a picture with an entertainer who was involved. lol To make matters worse, the victim involved happened to go to the top, let me repeat, top military school in our Nation, was booted due to what appears to be a false police report and all this during war time when folks have a soft spot for our military. THAT. Is. Why. People. Are. Outraged!!!!

[Edited 6/5/11 19:04pm]

That explains everything doesn't it ? lol Scary.

We have people in this country who think others shouldn't get due process because they've deemed them unworthy or less than. Sosgemini it goes both ways, I don't uphold knee jerk reactions.... that's why it's important to have due process for everyone. It makes one wonder why he didn't also file a lawsuit against H.P.D.

[self-censored- sos] . All people are doing is reacting to a video. It's not deeper than that. Nor is it a reflection of our judicial system. People are disgusted at what they are seeing with their own two eyes. Everything else, will be fleshed out via our courts.

And it's not a kneejerk reaction when you can witness the video yourself. That's like saying Paris Hilton is a virgin after watching her porno. lol

Didn't I just say a few days ago that being drunk don't excuse a beatdown? lol Nevermind. ohgoon Go ahead and kiss her butt, I ain't. lol

I think in many civil cases, the defendant always expressed their side. I think the real reason Patti's being QUIET is because she's just NOW hearing dude's a CADET. Talk about having a part of your reputation brought down A BIG ASS NOTCH! lol

And sos is right, it's DEFINITELY not a kneejerk reaction. lol

Just watched the video of which there is no audio. I wouldn't throw Mrs. LaBelle

under the bus yet. This dude with the yellow shirt on was clearly a little inebriated.

Also it's unknown what was said to whom first. The bodyguard may have asked the

dude to move nicely a few times and with him being inebriated may have made a smart ass remark

and sparked the whole confrontation. Not sure what the dude being an Army cadet has to

do with anything. He has been suspended from the academy for public intoxication and the

Houston PD determined that it was this cat that instigated the confrontation. There's no proof

that Patti ordered the beatdown.

Thank you. It's important to hear all sides of what happened, then a determination can be made who may be libel and if any puntive damages should be awarded. The young man name is Richard King, I thought is was Mr. Bowick, my bad.

Patti LaBelle Accused of Ordering Attack at Airport

West Point student claims her bodyguards assaulted him in Houston

R&B legend Patti LaBelle has been accused of ordering an attack on a man who got too close to her luggage at George H.W. Bush Intercontinental airport in Houston.

Richard King, a 23-year-old senior at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, has filed a lawsuit claiming that he was attacked by LaBelle's bodyguards on March 11th when she thought he was standing too close to her belongings outside the airport.

Security camera footage released by King's legal representation – which you can watch below – shows that King was confronted by three bodyguards, and was punched after pushing one of them in self-defense. King's lawyer says that he was diagnosed with a concussion after the incident. King, a defensive player for the Army football team, was forced to sit out the rest of the season due to his injuries sustained in the attack.

King, who claims he is not familiar with LaBelle or her music, is seeking unspecified damages against the singer, her bodyguards, a taxi dispatcher and the airport.

To me, it seems like these "bodyguards" responded poorly to indescretions of their own making. If there was an issue with the luggage, do your damn job and secure the luggage in a room, in a vehicle trunk, or by standing right there with it, you lazy and inattentive motherfucker. So, they were doing their job overseeing this luggage poorly, and when Patti called dude out she was really calling out the "bodyguards." The "bodyguards" exacted revenge on this passerby who accidently illuminated the fact of thier poor attention to Patti's luggage - they were killing the messanger.

I'm not sure what people are talking about here on the org when they suggest that this dude was clearly intoxicated. He was wobbly AFTER he was punched a few times, fell to the ground, and knocked his head into a concrete pillar. That is called Traumatic Brain Injury. Intoxication is not "clearly" reflected at all IMO.

At the beginning of the video it looks like he is staggering. That may be due to the choppy nature of the video or it may be due to intoxication. I thought it was a bit strange that his own lawyer conceded that he had one or two drinks on the flight. Why would he admit to that unless intoxication was a factor in the incident?

Around 2:05, it cuts to the guy getting treatment for his injuries, a woman nearby hugs him as he is taken into a hospital bed heading to an ambulance and the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

He doesn't seem staggery in the begining to me. Timmy's 2nd video of incident posting leaves me feeling that them bodyguards may be fully in the wrong and need to get out their checkbooks. Even if this dude shoved one of them first, it is the job of a bodyguard to deescalate situations such as this on behalf of their clients. It seems that instead of this the bodygaurd took license to act out physically. Because really, who what when where was anyone in danger by this dude and his cell phone use? And why would Patti Labelle's luggage receive more priority in this square footage than any other legitimate traveler; shit, she's already got bodyguards watchin' over the luggage. ??? Patti sure did seem to understand that it would be she who would have to calm things after the bullshit rained down, and take some photographs and sign some autographs. This bullshit will be in her life for some time.

Actually, I have a friend who told me about Patti's ugly side years ago. My friend worked at a hotel in New Orleans and told me how Patti had an entourage, diva demands, and brought her own set of dishes and silverware to the hotel. Her food had to be prepared in a certain way. And when the staff didn't do things in a strict fashion--Diva Patti threw a fit! This was in the 1980s. Must be worse now...

Patti LaBelle sued over alleged attack

Singing legend Patti LaBelle -- the so-called godmother of soul -- is now the target of a lawsuit after a violent confrontation involving her security guards was caught on camera at a Houston airport.

Now wait a minute, since when is Patti LaBelle the Godmother of Soul and what does Aretha think of this? lol

I don't have strong feelings about Patti one way or the other but I do not believe that she has earned that title. hmph! I dig some of her music from the '60s and '70s but since the '80s she's been more adult contemporary than soul.

...and Aretha's records haven't? I think they've both dabbled into the adult contemporary pond and breast stroked back through r&b equally, with similar results and a faithful audience. In any even, I doubt Auntie Re-Re would be bothered by Miss Patti's moniker as the Godmother of Soul-as she is the Queen! Besides, the world of soul is big enough for all the iconic greats to have their own place and title smile

True enough but Aretha's work circa 1967-mid '70s absolutely kills anything that Patti ever did. I just get my back up a little bit when Patti is referred to that way. Heck, forget Aretha, what does James Brown think of her being referred to as the Godmother of Soul? To me that implies that she is the female equivalent of James and that is absolutely not true. I just don't believe that Patti has earned any titles and to put her in the same league as people like James and Aretha is laughable.
