Fair enough. I still think that there is too much in that video that we can't see to draw any conclusions one way or another.

Oh, and I am the farthest thing from an apologist for Patti LaBelle. I've got no strong feelings about her either way. I am slightly prejudiced against obnoxious drunks. wink

He didn't seem obnoxious. lol I think Patti and her people were actually more obnoxious. You saw the way the bodyguards (one of them being Patti's only son Zuri) standing over him as if they had won a basketball game or some shit? confused Come on now! lol I know you can't stand drunks but I just didn't see how he was obnoxious. Even if he was, did that require a beatdown? Hell to the naw. I mean at least you can agree with me on THAT aspect, fuck that he had a few drinks. drink And then Patti strutting like she didn't know what the fuck was happening. CAUGHT YA GIRL! CAUGHT YA! hah!

They said that someone from the Houston Police Department reported that, and it's turning out it could've been false information, that the dude provoked the actions by punching Zuri Edwards (but the video only showed him pushing him slightly) but it was clear the bodyguards made the first move on him and then proceeded to punch him and push him to the ground where he bled profusely. The false police report also stated the dude yelled at Patti yet it's hard to tell from the video (looks like it may not have happened at all). Instead of seeing the video, they just made this report. Zuri for some reason however said, "I don't wanna press charges". confused That's where things get fishy. Now this video raises doubts in Zuri's story.

Because West Point is a military school for the best of the best. You have to get sponsored by a US Representative and even then are not guaranteed admittance. They have zero tolerence for inappropriate behavior and unfortunately the police report (which is now under investigation) blamed him for the incident because he was drunk.

When I watched the video, I can't tell if the dude is swerving cause he is drunk or if those are just jumps in the video cause everyone's body movement looks odd due to the jumps.

Yep. That's why it was hard for me to determine if the man was even drunk as they said even if, as he said, he had two drinks so who knows? I mean if he was a rude drunk, you think he would've been kicked out of the airport anyway. That doesn't appear to be the case.

This is your 'Godmother of Soul'. In a festival date with The Isley Brothers in the early Eighties, they called Aretha, 'The Godmother of Soul'. Miss Holt has always wanted and needed a title. She has told many insiders of her insanely jealous feeling for the rave and attention Aretha has gotten over the years.

She stated we were with the same label (Atlantic), had similar songs (debateable) and similar styles (not really).

Patti Labelle (Patricia Louise Holt) has had her biggest successes as a member of a group, ditto for Gladys Knight.

Aretha Franklin has always been a solo act.

Franklin writes, plays piano, has done her own backgrounds on several of her tunes over the years.

Patti LaBelle was in Patti Labelle and The Bluebelles, then it was minus Cyndi Birdsong (who joined The Supremes to replace Florence Ballard) and they became simply - Labelle.

Miss Holt has never clicked with mainstream America the way Miss Franklin has.

Her catalog does not bear out catchy hit tunes. Her biggest song was a duet with Michael McDonald. Her other biggest song was a group song with LaBelle called "Lady Marmalade".

She will never be as relevant as Aretha Franklin, no matter how much she wishes it.

I wonder how she feels now that she has been quoted as saying Franklin told her she has pancreatic cancer.?

She is mouthy and needs to shut the eff up. Perhaps this incident will put enough of a dent in her purse to make her 'think'.

Yeah I remembered when she said Aretha had pancreatic cancer as if she KNEW it. neutral Then Aretha comes out to perform and looked more like a picture of good health rather than the cancer-riddled star many feared she would be. I mean I'll still enjoy Patti's past material but I just can't look at her the same way again. After 25 years, I might as well just give up my LaBelle fan card for this. Despicable. disbelief

Hell I went on her Ticketmaster page and checked some reviews. Apparently when she ain't singing sometimes, she's either eating chicken (YES YOU HEARD RIGHT, EATING SOME DAMN CHICKEN!) or having trouble taking off heels or talking and talking and talking over and over and over again. Then having her background singers do solos while she did whatever it is she did. neutral But yeah this is definitely NOT a good look for her at all.

This was her excuse: "I'm a diabetic mess and I'm hungry for some chicken". She also ate some beans. This was late last year. neutral

I have no basis for thinking this but Patti strikes me as an insufferable harpy shrew. Just the looks of her makes my shoulders tighten. I would not be surprised if she had sent her henchmen after this young man, who by the looks of things wasn't doing anything.

I giggled at him not even knowing who she is...

But yeah she's been singing pop and urban AC since 1986. She hasn't sung anything that I could say is "soul music" since, like, 1986... and I'm being real with it. lol

Sounds like you singing a different tune because of this lawsuit because you seem to be really upset lol

I dont really know what to say myself, she is clearly in the wrong

but I mean similiar to James Brown this does not take away from her legacy... once again celebrities are not perfect so STOP acting like they are

I agree and it really doesn't appear that the guy was acting crazy in any way.

Exactly. Even if it was hard to tell from the camera's angle, it seems like the entire time he was on his phone minding his business having no clue he was in front of some "diva's" luggage. I think what really made my blood boil was seeing the so-called "Miss Thang" come out of the limo like everything was cool. Maybe she was doing some PR damage. I'm not gonna excuse her behavior just because she's the legendary Patti LaBelle. There's two sides to this woman, there's Patti LaBelle the entertainer and Patricia Louise Edwards (according to court documents, Patti's still using her married surname rather than her maiden name Holt), the woman, and right now both sides have disappointed me. Patti LaBelle now eats chicken in concert and talks all the time and when she does sing, she caterwauls it. Patricia Edwards has menopausal episodes and diabetic problems and instead of really seeking help, she acts as if she's invincible. This video will definitely harm her reputation if only slightly.

Holy crap. This just made front page of Yahoo. This is horrible news for Labelle. Wow!!!

In his best-laid plans, Richard King was set to leave West Point next year as both a starting cornerback on the Cadet football team and a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Instead, in a span of a little less than three months, he's been inflicted with likely career-ending injuries, busted to private and thrust into the queue for active duty — all, according to a lawsuit filed this week, the consequences of an unexpected encounter with...ti LaBelle after King landed in his nativeHouston for spring break on March 11:

King's lawsuit, obtained by the Associated Press, states, "Apparently, defendant LaBelle believed King was standing too close to her (no doubt expensive) luggage, even though he was oblivious to her presence and the danger he was in. LaBelle lowered the window of her limousine and gave a command to her bodyguards. They sprang into action."
[…]
A surveillance video from the airport provided by King's lawyer and reviewed by The Associated Press showed King, who is 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, talking on a cell phone when one of LaBelle's bodyguards appeared to push up against him. It appeared that King then pushed him back. John Raley, one of King's lawyers, said King did not push back but was only trying to protect himself from a punch.

The bodyguard and two other individuals then pushed and punched King, hitting him in the face. King fell into a concrete pillar during the altercation. He tried to get up, staggered, tried to get back up and staggered again. King was taken away on a stretcher with blood on his shirt and a bandage on his head.

See the video of the incident here.

LaBelle's limo driver — her 37-year-old son — declined to press charges, but did file an initial complaint against King with Houston police, whose report of the incident (based on the driver's account) described King as drunk, belligerent and harassing the occupants of the limo. It also suggests King swung first at the driver when asked to step away, and that both the driver and an officer who arrived later "smelled the odor of alcohol on the suspect," which is the better explanation for why the person lying half-conscious on the pavement has to have charges dropped against him. (King and his lawyer said he had "a few drinks" on the plane but wasn't drunk, and only shoved a bodyguard to protect himself.) The less flattering explanation is that starstruck officers — one of whom was later caught on camera posing for a picture with LaBelle with King's spilled blood still on the pavement a few feet away — sided with celebrity.

Either way, King's immediate fate appears to be sealed. After the incident, the report filed by the driver was forwarded by Houston police to West Point, which subsequently decided to "outprocess" King "under ...ve action" — in civilian terms, to suspend him, drop his rank and ship him out under a program that enlists cadets who leave the academy after the beginning of their junior year for three years of active duty with an option to return to complete their degree at the end of the tour.

It's not clear what King's service will entail, but he told local news in Houston that he expects to be deployed in the next few months and hopes to return to the academy in 2013. "I'm going to do whatever my country tells me to do," he said. "I'm going to give it my all."

If his West Point career isn't over, though, his football career almost certainly is: According to the lawsuit, King suffered a concussion, has continued to experience lingering headaches and dizziness and — in light of a series of concussions that sidelined him for the ent...009 season — has been told by doctors that he'll never play again. Last year, King returned to play in every game and intercept four passes as an occasional starter for the first decent Army outfit in 15 years. Here's hoping to even more success on his next team.

You need to get a grip on reality with your haterade about Patti. Since when has sales had anything to do with relevency? She can balls out sing and the pop crowd has not been interested in real RnB since the mid-70s. If you sound to black you are not going to cross over and that is not such a bad thing.

As far as the tape we have no idea what this guy said to set off the bodyguards and I am not so sure thay beat this dude at her request. We just do not have all of the information.

Have you looked at the charts lately? Both the Hot 100 and the Billboard 200 are dominated by "black" sounding artists.

Patti has had some great records but she's been fairly inconsistent throughout her career and it's very difficult to make a case that she is in the same league as Aretha Franklin. Over the last 25 years she has arguably been more interested in chasing trends rather than releasing strong albums.

Sales??? I do not recall mentioning sales in my post - so wtf are you babbling about?

I referenced hits, duh! Hits can be by the amount of BDS and MediaBase detections.

"Respect" by itself probably has more spins than all of Patti LaBelle's catalog of tunes.
