She is most definitely overrated. She has been hyped up because people forgot, miss, or never knew about... She is a copy cat.

Sounds like my grandma who basically thought Madonna just ripped of Marilyn Monroe and other starlets of a bygone era. Most of the shit out there has been done before...it's just repackaged and new to each generation. I mean, was Nirvana new and different than anything before? Nope just new to kids in the 90's. That's it. That's all that is needed.

perhaps u're right, but "Nevermind" was surely one of the 10 best albums of that decade (some will disagree, but it's almost common sense I dare 2 say), IMO BTW isn't even between the 10 best albums of this year so far.

I like her. In a world of shitty disposable pop music, she manages to inject some energy, difference, and (dare I say it) art into the pop landscape.

Is she treading a path people like Bowie, Prince, and Madonna already blazed? Yes.

But much like Prince did with his influences (Hendrix, Sly, Little Richard, James Brown, The Beatles)...Lady Gaga is making her music relevant/unique for the current crop of teenagers and 20 somethings. She is fun to watch. Is it her fault that the industry is in such a rut that they are going to cling to her and force her down our collective throats? No more so than Madonna before her.

Bottom line: She makes catchy enjoyable pop music. She seems sincerely interesting as a pop star can be, and in this day age, that is something to be applauded.

I am a proud ownder of "Nevermind"! That is great music and I'm not aware of any other artist that preceded Nirvanna and had the same sound, look and stage presence. The only thing predictiable about Nirvanna was their drug use, guitar smashing and suicidal lead singer. Other than those things they were unique and a breath of fresh rock air during the late 80s/early 90s.

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer. rose

And there it is. BTW isn't the years best by a long shot. I'd sooner lump it in the years worst.

And as predicted, Adele knocked Gaga's rapidly sales declining CD out of the top spot.

It is not exaggerating to say she is copying Madonna's entire career strategy. She (and her agents/advisers) have the playbook and are just copying it almost verbatim, just with some different songs.

i'm always into definitions and roots of words. when i read the title of this thread, i decided to look up the definition(s) of the word gaga. i've posted one of three defs.

Considering the above to be just one of the definitions of gaga, along with the syonyms, maybe she is not over rated. her path as a musical recording artist should prove to be interesting as years go by.

as for me, i'm not a fan of Lady Gaga. for many people she's a great artist and i can appreciate those who find her worthy of fame. however for some reason i find her creative exposure is weird, freakish, grotesque, and sometimes too ludicrous. so for me listening to her or watching her videos would be an over-expediture of my time.

i wonder sometimes if LG will have the longevity of Madonna in the world of the music industry.

i wish her the best and hope she finds a new persona that will expose her true talent as a legitimate vocalist instead of saccharinated eye candy aka: C 7 H 5 NO 3 S.

Oh brother, get over it already. A woman comes onto the pop scene with views of her own, catchy tunes and unguarded sexuality and she's copying Madonna? You do know that there were women who fit that mold before Madonna hit the scene, right? When was the last time you saw Madonna play the piano? There are PLENTY of artist that have obviously been Gaga's inspiration, and whom she obviously draws from, but once again because she's a white female who sings pop music, she's automatically "copying Madonna". Please rolleyes .

=/ Are you so blinded by your love for Gaga that you can't see the obvious that's right in front of you? Who cares if Madonna doesn't play the piano?! What does that have to do with the bigger picture? Also, no matter how many words you type in caps is not going to change the obvious. Yeah she takes for a lot of artists, but you would have to be a fool to not see the obvious.

I'm not blinded by anything. And my typing in caps has nothing to do with it. I've stated before that yes, Gaga has similarities with Madonna, but she is not the only artist in which it is obvious that Gaga has drawn inspiration from. The Madonna thing is a dead horse issue at this point. How many times is it going to be rehashed? The same thing was said about Britney, and she is so unlike Madonna that it's not even funny. The point is, Madonna is not completely original, either. Pop music and pop culture in general is a cycle. Eveyone draws inspiration from every thing. When I look at Gaga, I see a ton of influence from many artists, and I see her own unique talent as well. It's ridiculous that everything this girl comes out with is automatically linked to/accused of ripping from Madonna. She could come out singing "Mr. Bojangles", and people would say "Madonna did it firrrrrssst!" Please.

The good news is that her album sales have dramatically declined. What was it, like a 84% drop in sales the 2nd week -- the biggest in soundscan history. Then she sold even less the 3rd week and was replaced by Adele on the top of the charts. Now people are talking about how weak her new video for EOG is.

I figured a Gaga backlash would happen eventually, but I didn't think it would start quite this soon.

You may be celebrating a bit too soon. Let's see where the album is in six months or a year. It's not that surprising that it dropped out of the top spot so soon, typically every week there is a new number one album.

I agree. It is just plain sad that people sit at their computers, waiting for any story that diminishes her success in the slightest ways, just to post it to boards in a celebratory manner. Pitiful.

What is "good" about this? I mean, really? The album debuted HUGE, and, as is natural, fell off after a few weeks. It was still number one in its second week. It's already platinum plus. That "84% drop" is just a number. I've read equal love and hate stories for the EOG video. So what? Why the adamant hate? Do you know Lady Gaga? Has she done anything to you? Run over your puppy? Stolen your grandma's purse? Please, keep your negativity.

That may be true but wouldn't it be better for those people to wish success on artists they like rather than failure on those that they dislike?

Honestly, I don't think I've bought any other albums that were released in 2011 (excluding compilations/reissues of older material) but it's easy to say it's not even one of the ten best of the year. It's harder to actually name the albums you prefer over it. I applaud Militant and the other poster who responded to my challenge for actually naming ten (or twelve) albums that they prefer.

Thank you. Also interesting is that only 3 albums appear on both my list and go2theMax's list, so it's not like there's a shortage of choice. I actually haven't heard half the albums on go2theMax's list but there's a chance I'd probably like some of them more, too.

There's only three songs on Born This Way that I still listen to. That does not make a good album for me.
