Extreme: III Sides to the Story

Been rediscovering this album - whilst some of the songs haven't travelled well the majority hold up in the funk/rock meets the melodic influence of The Beatles deliver.

Anyone else out there love the album?

Absolutley love it, i like the 3 different movements. part three is my favourite. Rise N Shine/Am I Ever Gonna Change/Who Cares is great.

Probably my favourite album, just slightly edging Pornograffitti. It's really too bad that the album kind of tanked but with the way music was changing in 1992/1993 it was kind of inevitable that Extreme would fall out of fashion. At first I was really thrown by the sound of the next album (Waiting for the Punchline) but I've grown to enjoy it. I do kind of wish that Nuno had never discovered "alternative" music. I like some of his post Extreme stuff but most of it sounds nothing like Extreme.

Oddly, I never heard "Don't Leave Me Alone" (the track that was excised from the cd version of the album) until this year. If you haven't heard it you should track down the three disc Extragraffitti set. There's some good rare stuff on there.

Sorry to nitpick but the correct title is III Sides to Every Story.

Nuno's work outside of Extreme is a bit patchy but is better than Gary's! VHIII anyone disbelief

Brilliant, outragously under-rated album. Love it.

Saudades de Rock was a great comeback album as well. Surprised at how good it was to be honest. 3 years later and it still holds up as well. ...probably on par with Punchline.

Oh I must have the super exclusive version then, lol razz

Nah, my mistake - teaches me to post quickly from work while listening to something.

Here is one of my fave songs of the album - classic funk/rock with Nuno killing it on guitar.

This band is very underrated! so sad people think of them as the More Then Word's guy's....... or Gary as the failed 3rd singer of Van Halen razz

They have some rocking/funk tunes on this disc

So what soes Saudades de Rock sound like? I'm sure I'll get it sooner or later but I'm hoping it sounds more like early Extreme rather than Waiting for the Punchline or Nuno's other stuff. I actually really enjoyed Schizophonic but I didn't like it that Nuno essentially abandoned the Van Halen/Queen sound that the first three albums had.

It does sound like early Extreme but with the minimal Punchline production, very little overdubs. It's way better than Punchline. It also has a re recording of Intetrface from the Dramagods album. I saw them on this tour (which is pretty much the Take Us Alive track listing) at the London Astoria and they were amazing.

Exactly, easily another underrated band that got hit with the sterotype and label because of a ballad being a huge hit, some people tend to not even realize that they recorded prior to that, and also "Hole in My Heart"" was a big hit too, which showed another side to them. But 3sides was amazing to me one of my top albums of the 90;s by far! Love the flow of it, great piece at the end with the connected parts almost turning it into a mini opera. Queen is their heaviest influence these guys were good freinds with the band especially Brian May, and they KILLED it during the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, totally stealing the show, like Queen did during Live Aid.
