Huge Bolan fan here! wave I love Metal Guru, but I've always considered the finished version a bit overproduced. This is one of my favourite tracks from The Slider:

"Life's an elevator, it goes up and down. Life's an elevator can't you dig the sound?" -Marc Bolan

My favorite T.Rex song. I first heard it when I saw part of their Top of The Pops clip on TV:

When I was first start getting into David Bowie's Glam period, it was natural for me to start digging his stuff too:

Yeah for me, it's been gradual. After listening to Bowie, I decided to check out T. Rex (the glam period, 1971-1974). Next up will be Roxy Music obviously (and Brian Eno solo). I'm moving on up on the glam bit of things (as well as the punk bit of things). You know many of the glam acts helped pave the way for punk acts (T. Rex included). New York Dolls, Todd Rundgren (yeah he had some glam music/a glam look then too), etc.

I have their first five albums and don't see what the big deal is honestly. The aren't bad at all, but I was expecting more based on all the praise they get here. I found myself ranking the albums rather low for the most part in the org 70s poll last year.

So they were a bit of a let down?

Maybe my expectations were just too high. I knew them to be revered by so many people. And the singles are great. But when I bought the albums and listened to them, I was left asking, "is that all there is?"

Or maybe Bowie spoiled me. Everyone else comes up short in the 70s compared to him.

Oh OK, I got cha. Yeah I think Bowie would spoil it for everybody lol but I think there's artists, if you don't compare them to him, that stand out on their own. smile
