Rick James telling the truth about Motown... :P Skip to 2:00....
Rick James was a smart man. From my knowledge, he left Motown with all his publishing rights.

He was one of a kind. He definitely left Motown with a lot of money, unfortunately he didn't hold on to it for long.
I love the part at the end when he talked about his video for 'Loosey's Rap'.

"They make you just to break you."

2 statements that stand on their own.

I think the same can be said for most labels. He said that the folks at Warner Brothers were more like a family. However, there were artists at that very label that did not share that same sentiment. And we all know how well Rick's lone album at the label sold (it didn't!). "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Gotta Agree 100%, i mean all labels work for some and not for others, i mean WB was good to Prince but to people like Chaka and Larry Graham and others they werent good, everyone will have a different view depending what the album is doing, at times it is very common when sales are dropping to say "the label isnt with us" which is true many times, but labels like any other business are going to jump on what is selling. Exactly. He should had sat down and ordered some grits and hashbrown's at Cracker Barrel instead of selling his album there. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It's coming; Robinson probably already walks out backwards when Mr. Berry dismisses him for a room... oh, excuse me Emperor Berry.

Cracker Barrel featuring Smokey, wasn't a good experience.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That was really a downgrade and here I thought Smoke was laying off the hog! So why the hell was he selling his shit at the fucking Cracker Barrel?!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I mean really, brotha man couldn't hook-up with Wal-Mart or someone?

Aretha's supposedly his homegirl, Aretha should've been like "honey, why are you selling your album at the Cracker Barrel, sell it at Wal Mart, least you get on the chart. "

My God, Sista Franklin should watch the company she keeps.

Yeah and she should call Stevie and cuss him out for not releasing his albums like he said he would too while she's at it!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Ray Ray cuss out Steveland? Surely You Jest!!!
yeah, we've just soooo highjacked this thread. well not really because we are talkin' lil' 'bout Motown and it's like Robinson said, it's all in the family.

That's because he was there from the beginning and wrote a lot of "big" hits and got PAID. What about those people that didn't write music, but sang the htis? Smokey is definitely full of BS. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

When Aretha released her Christmas album a few year ago, wasn't it originally only being sold at Borders and Cracker Barrel??? "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

It's funny to see Rick in 1988, recently signed to WB, taking pot shots at Motown. Because later he would have some prety nasty things to say about that song and WB when he published his autobiography.
