Rick James telling the truth about Motown... :P

Rick James was a smart man. From my knowledge, he left Motown with all his publishing rights.

He was one of a kind. He definitely left Motown with a lot of money, unfortunately he didn't hold on to it for long.

I love the part at the end when he talked about his video for 'Loosey's Rap'.

"They make you just to break you."

"I'm Rick James Bitch."

2 statements that stand on their own.

I think the same can be said for most labels. He said that the folks at Warner Brothers were more like a family. However, there were artists at that very label that did not share that same sentiment. And we all know how well Rick's lone album at the label sold (it didn't!).

Gotta Agree 100%, i mean all labels work for some and not for others, i mean WB was good to Prince but to people like Chaka and Larry Graham and others they werent good, everyone will have a different view depending what the album is doing, at times it is very common when sales are dropping to say "the label isnt with us" which is true many times, but labels like any other business are going to jump on what is selling.

That's because he was there from the beginning and wrote a lot of "big" hits and got PAID. What about those people that didn't write music, but sang the htis? Smokey is definitely full of BS.

When Aretha released her Christmas album a few year ago, wasn't it originally only being sold at Borders and Cracker Barrel???

It's funny to see Rick in 1988, recently signed to WB, taking pot shots at Motown. Because later he would have some prety nasty things to say about that song and WB when he published his autobiography. biggrin
