I finally listened to the entire album

Man! what a great late 70's album, Journey To The Center Of Your Heart is my favorite on the album, so sweet & funky i just love the vibe it really is fantastic. On My Honor is a great one to and show's Donna's great songwriting collab efforts.

There are the classic hits Hot Stuff which is just one of the best disco/funk song's of that time amazing!, Bad Girls as well. Dim All The Light's is a dance classic.

The entire album is just fantastic i love it!

"Walk Away"---this great song was finally released as a single more than a year after the album was released.Under different circumstances,this would have been a Top 10 smash.

"Dim All The Lights"---Donna is most proud of this song.She wrote it all by herself.

An interesting fact about, "Dim All The Lights". Donna had originally written it for, Rod Stewart.

As hard as it is imagining Stewart's take on the song, it's even harder imagining him doing justice to the song after hearing Donna's version for so many years. Along with the title cut, my favorites from the album includes Lucky and Journey To The Center Of Your Heart.

What took you so long? LOL. It's been out for how long? Just messin'. You know, a HUGE DoNNa SuMMer fan has got to say something:) Of course, I love every song on this album. There's not one I don't like. It, like most all of her others, shows her versatility in genres. And why for the life of me does Hot Stuff keep getting referred to as a disco song more so than a rock song? Maybe because it was released in the disco era? I don't know, but it's definitely more rock than disco. Surely, a mixture of both, to me.

One of my favorite albums of all time. Pure perfection from start to finish and in true disco fashion, the majority of the songs segue into each other nonstop. For years, the only thing I liked on Side 3 was "On My Honor" but I have grown to love the rest of the slow jams also so, as I said before, pure perfection from start to finish.

The album is even perfect all the way down to the artwork. It's got my favorite theme. Nightlife and whores! The fold out inside is great with all the hooker street scenes from sailors to guys drinking to Donna giving Geogio Moroder a handjob. But my favorite is the back cover with Donna standing in the headlights of a car with a trick holding a $50 dollar bill. Even down to the inside record sleeves which have kind of a red neon light feel to them kinda like an afterhours late night disco.

***Donna claims that when she presented the song "Hot Stuff" to her record label,they asked her to give the song to Cher.Donna told them "hell no!"

***Earlier I mentioned that the song "Walk Away" was released as a single a year after the album came out and under questionable circumstances.Let me elaborate.In January 1980,Donna sued Casablanca Records and successfully ended her contract with them.She quickly signed with Geffen Records and began recording a new album.Casablanca were understandably pissed and so they tried to sabotage Donna's new record.When her 'new' single "The Wanderer" was sent to radio,Casablanca rush-released the old song "Walk Away" as a single,trying to confuse listeners."Walk Away" managed to chart,but didn't become the major hit that it deserved to be.

***Donna fought to have an entire side of ballads.Casblanca wanted 'Bad Girls' to be a non-stop disco album with no slow songs.At one point,she threatened to give up singing if they didn't let her do a whole side of ballads.

Thanks for the info never knew her label wanted her to give the song 'Bad Girls' away to Cher that would've been a big mistake.

Frankly I never knew that album had ballads Three song that stood to me was Hot Stuff Bad Girls and Sunset People by the way she looked great on the album cover more sexier than Diana Ross.

For some ODD reason, I can't say "Bad Girls" is a disco record. It's more of a crossover pop record, much like Blondie's Parallel Lines was, like that one had disco, new wave, punk and post-punk material, same with Bad Girls and its mixture of disco, R&B, pop, rock and new wave.

It was "Hot Stuff" lol I think it was unanimous that Casablanca thought "Bad Girls" would be a Donna Summer classic. Both songs would've felt awkward in Cher's hands. "Hell on Wheels" was almost a rip-off of "Bad Girls" at that and we saw how it did on the charts.

Notice the difference in sounds on all the 15 tracks on it:

• Hot Stuff (obviously rock influenced with a dance element)
• Bad Girls (a funk-rock classic without being "too" much on either funk or rock, a nice blend)
• Love Will Always Find You (another rock influenced number)
• Walk Away (one of the precursors to '80s dance-pop and one of the couple soul-influenced numbers)
• Dim All the Lights (obvious rock influences in that one and it also started off almost R&B-ish)
• Journey to the Center of Your Heart (obviously funk influenced)
• One Night in a Lifetime (pop-rock influenced)
• Can't Get to Sleep at Night (mid-tempo pop groove)
• On My Honor (country influenced)
• There Will Always Be A You (pop)
• All Through the Night (definitely pop, I think it's a power-pop influenced ballad)
• My Baby Understands (PURE ROCK NUMBER IMHO)
• Our Love (new wave-ish)
• Lucky (obviously electronic)
• Sunset People (same as "Lucky" with a mixture of "Our Love" new wave sounds)

This was definitely an album that broke her out of that disco mold for a while.

I do and I agree. You picked all my faves on the album also. You also excluded "Hot Stuff" as I would have.

Whenever I used to visit my cousins when I was little I used to sneak off and listen to this great album in their den. They'd be outside playing cowboys and indians or some shit like that and I'd be playing Donna Summer.

Donna has done several songs about prostitution I guess it was an interesting topic for her? There's the 1974 single "Lady Of The Night".....the 1977 song "Black Lady" (about a hooker) and of course,"Bad Girls".

It got to the point where,everytime she would release a new single,I somehow assumed that she was singing about a hooker When "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" was released in 1982,I thought she was singing....

I guess I missed the target....caught up in a different nine to five

Then,a year later when she released "She Works Hard For The Money",I thought "here she goes again!" LOL

I've never heard this song before. The only Donna Summer albums I have are "Love To Love You", "Live and More", "Bad Girls", "The 12 Inch Dance Collection", and "The Wanderer". Then I have the "Love Is In Control" and "She Works Hard For The Money" 12 Inches and I also have the 2 CD "Anthology" set.

Looks like I'm gonna have to go back and get some of those older Donna Summer albums because I love a good hooker song.
