Fiona Apple - Love Ridden
A highlight from the When The Pawn album, and one of the best songs about the end of a relationship, to my mind. Granted, it's not one to spin to pick yourself up when you're feeling blue, but it's an absolute must for your 'pity party' playlist! (And we all throw ourselves one of those from time to time, don't we?)
It's the chorus that does it:
No, not "Baby" anymore If I need you, I'll just use your simple name Only kisses on the cheek from now on, And in a little while, we'll only have to wave...
That's such an achingly tragic sentiment, but, in my experience, at least, it's often much closer to the truth than anyone likes to admit at the time. "Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced." - James Baldwin

I think it's Fiona Apple's most heartbreaking song, which is certainly saying something. 2012: The Queen Returns

I love Fiona!
"When the Pawn..." will always be her best album, to me. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

Yes, definitely one of her most heartbreaking songs.
When The Pawn's my favourite, too. I feel like people probably passed Fiona by as a kind of upgraded Alanis - another oestrogen-fueled screamer - but I think she's a really good songwriter, and Jon Brion's production really brought out the best of her talent. I think her record company just didn't promote her as much as they should have. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day
