I gotta go with Major Harris on this one because he got away with having that chick do all that moaning in the background. What the hell was going on in the studio that day?...lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

That was actually something standard in 1970s soul recordings. Marvin had about three records with women moaning (and in the case of "You Sure Love to Ball", you could hear another man moaning with a woman lol). But yeah I wonder what was going on that day. giggle

I saw Johnny in concert in the spring of 1987. This show followed right behind Lady T, Prince and Luther as the best and favorite show I have ever attended. He covered some Barbara Streisand cuts that left our jaws on the ground.

yeah there was a lot of "pillow talk" songs in the 70's. lol every once in a while some "holy roller" would trip but ....

Donna Summer got some flack for "Love To Love You Baby" but... it still got played. lol

I'm gonna have to give the nod to, Major Harris tho'.

The Major Harris version I will always remember as a kid. I thought it wasnt as bad as Donna Summer's Love to love you, baby. Never knew it was a cover by Major Harris

And it continued on into the 1980s also with "How Does It Feel" by Bloodstone, "She Talks To Me With Her Body" by The Barkays, and "Lady Cab Driver" by Prince.

The songs that were released with moaning, I'm kinda surprised at how well it did.

"You Sure Love to Ball" was the one single released that probably was unable to hit the top of either pop or R&B because it was too controversial for BOTH. lol #13 R&B/#50 pop lol

I looked all over for years for that long 17 minute version with no luck. I kept thinking it was a 12 Inch and that's why I couldn't find it. Finess hipped me that it was the album version. It's the whole entire side of side 1. I ordered the album and there it was.

Everything is 12' to me, I wonder why? lol

They had a radio single version of "Love To Love You Baby"... after 10 or midnight. biggrin.
