Glen's awesome! He just put out an album of covers he did of more recent bands and artists that i've heard is pretty damn good!

Anyway, there's another video of him noodling on the guitar in between takes of a tv show and it's just fantastic. Playing guitar comes more naturally to him than breathing does to many people.

I kinda/sorta miss the days when artists like Glenn Campbell had a shot on the radio.

A few years back, can't remember what channel aired it, but they re-ran a bunch of the "Glen Campbell Good Time Show" episodes.

I was like "HOLY HELL!!!!!" That guy is SERIOUSLY shreddy on guitar. He really is an amazing player.

Identity

"Wichita Lineman" is a visual song with an underlying sadness in the lyrics. Glenn was once a backup guitarist and vocalist for the Beach Boys on the road.

Glen is playing the riff on The Monkees' Mary Mary. Mike Nesmith said that Glen had a hard time at first, because Mike wanted him to play funky. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

This thread led to me watching some guitar battles between Glenn and Jerry Reed. I had no idea. At their style of music (good ole country western), either one could kick just about anyone's ass. I bet Jerry Reed was just cool as hell to hang out with.

When I went that that recording school in Phoenix, we had a little field trip to somebody's home studio (there were Porsches parked out front), and were told that "the guy sitting in that booth last was Glenn Campbell". That was kinda cool.

Most folks don't realize that he played on a ton of 60s hits with the great in-house L.A. session band ...

...The Wrecking Crew

Sidebar:
An aquaintance of mine when I lived in Florida, Steve Turner, played drums in a rival fusion band.
This dude had Mike Clark/Harvey Mason type chops. At some point he moved to L.A.
When I moved out here in the early 80s, I always wondered what became of him.
One night I was watching Glen Campbell playing with the Boston Pops Orchestra I believe.
They scanned the musicians and when the camera landed on the drummer I instantly recognized Steve.
Tuxedo'd up, curly-fro, walrus mustache and that ever present grin on his face.

He was with Glen from '77 to around '85.

He's the one who married Country singer, Tanya Tucker and beat the shit outta her. I think they were both drunks and did lots of drugs back in the day. sad

biggrin nod The "Tube" use to have more stuff up with Glen and Jerry but most of it has been removed. sad Not much up with those two donin' some straightout flatpickin' / fingerpickin'.

In this video Campbell and Reed sing "Country Road" and then Reed sings the hell out of "Ko Ko Joe"

Wish the song quality was better but you still can still hear these to wonderous singers/guitarist. cool
