You think Kim Burrell will be remembered as one of the greats? Her voice is BEYOND. It amazes me she doesn't get more props "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Gospel is a niche market, and the mainstream aren't aware of it or the performers. That's why some quit and started doing secular like Sam Cooke, Lou Rawls, Amy Grant, etc. A few gospel/Christian pop acts get crossover sales, but for the most part, it's like jazz or bluegrass. Only the people who already listen to it seek out the music and performers, it gets no mainstream promotion. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Not necesarilly true.
When you say "mainstream," it doesn't necessarilly mean "pop" charts. Acts like Mary Mary Marvin Sapp and Kirk Franklin have LEGIONS of fans and are selling millions of copies now.
You must remember that there is a difference between Gospel music and Christian music today. Christian music tends to be the "pop" and "praise and worship" type acts. They have big stars like Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant.
Stations like BET and TV-One have had "gospel" programming for years. BET's longest running show is Bobby Jones' show. BET also has "Sunday Best" which is nothing but "American Idol" for Gospel Acts. It has been BIG for a few years.
Now back to the subject at hand, I think Kim Burrell is a decent singer, but she doesn't appeal to me. She CAN SING, but she is one of those that tends to over sing and rephrase a song too much for me.
Has anyone picked up her new album yet? **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I honestly don't know...
It's kinda like Kelly Price or Christina Aguilera, good voice but seems to oversing.
Time will tell if she can join the list of greats like the Clark Sisters, Shirley Caesar, Cece Winans and the like.
