Faith Hill is the Whiney Houston of country.

Eh, Shania sold a boatload more albums than Faith. For me that makes Shania more like Whitney than Faith.

Well Shania, I consider the Madonna of country just for the fact she dared bare her sexy midriff. cool Though I've yet to see her in cones. lurking lol

I still love her video for "Man! I Feel Like a Woman". Gender-bending and striptease at the same time. The men in the background were funny. Loved the Robert Palmer tribute with that one. biggrin

Shania was on Oprah recently, but I wasn't paying attention to it. My mom watches it.

Really. Why? eek Why is this guy one the best selling artists of all time???

I know that country is a successful genre in the USA, but I've recently heard the Greatest Hits of this guy, and beyond Ain't Goin' Down and Thunder Rolls, the rest of the songs are very generic, uninspired or just BLAND. I was looking for real, timeless country-rock hits but I only found CRAP neutral

why was this guy so popular back in the day (89-94)????? dead

jezz, I really need to listen to some Johnny Cash now, or I'll die...

Probably for exactly the reasons you mentioned.

His music is safe and bland and appeals to a wide selection of people. It's not too odd or out there or explicit or anything else.

I'm so glad i'm from the uk and couldn't name a single Garth Brooks single let alone whistle one, counrty isn't a genre that i'm overly familier with, apart from a few Johnny Cash albums with a few Ryan Adams albums and Crosby Stlls and Nash i don't know alot about country. I do have a soft spot for Shani aswell (a guilty pleasure, don't know why!)

cool

Hmmm, probably know a few N-Dubz and Girls Aloud tunes though, proud o'ureself are'ya?

You'll know this one I expect, originally a hit for Mr Brooks:

OP: the figures are baffling but Country appeals to an older demographic with more money in their pocket, ergo they'll be more likely to buy on a whim and in greater quantitys. Whether this makes them less discerning, or dimmer than your average music consumer, I doubt it.

Girls Aloud yes (although that's due to the missus having their greatest hits) but N-Dubz no. I listen to a dab classic rock radio station so i know very little from the top 40 thankfully.

I remember being a little confused back in 1994 when I was looking for the latest Black Crowes album (Amorica). Garth had his first greatest hits collection out and they had somewhat similar covers.

[img:$uid]http://sleevage.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/amorica_censored.jpg[/img:$uid]

[img:$uid]http://img.noiset.com/images/album/garth-brooks-the-hits-4-cd-album-art-28582.jpeg[/img:$uid]

I realise that they are not really that similar but keep in mind that in a wrecka stowe you tend to glance at the covers fairly quickly.

^^^The original cover for the Black Crowes album was a woman's crotch wearing a flag bikini. People complained, so it was changed. Actually, the cover is the same, just the rest of the woman was blacked out.

Yup, the original cover was lifted from an old issue of Hustler (are we allowed to post pics that show pubic hair?).

People who look good and sell millions of records because of that - BUT CAN'T SING - that's just wrong. Shania is gorgeous, but her voice is terrible and her music is sappy pop-country.

I am not a country music fan. Most of it I can't stand. I do like a few artists such as Dolly and Willie because they are both great songwriters. .

Shania is basically a crossover artist, country being her base... wink that said, her first two albums are 100% country for me, including The Woman in Me which was a big success three before Come On Over, something like Off the Wall and then Thriller...

very good and surprisingly pure, despite the obvious pop hooks...

I'll say this about Shania's music, you could hear dance, rock, pop influences all over it. Matter of fact some of the tracks, if arranged differently, could've fit PERFECTLY in Def Leppard's music. lol

nod Honey I'm Home sounds like a collaboration with the Def. Damn Robert John Mutt Lange, he keeps repeating himself, he's the Burger King of pop producers lol

I'll tell you the truth: I prefer the early Shania records than the crossover thing she did later, even if I dig that too...

Yeah, there's more country elements in her first records prior to The Woman in Me. After TWIM, she was guaranteed exposure more on VH-1 than CMT. lol

I do have to admit I am curious to hear what she can come up with in the post Mutt years. There's no way she can come close to her previous success but it will be interesting to hear how different her music is without him.

Don't ask me for a source but I'm sure she said her fans will hear new music "soon." I'm guessing that means in a year or less.

OK, here is a source.

http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews...ic-110328/

"I'm not really sure when I'll be able to get back up on that stage. I am preparing for it, I can tell you that, and I am already in the studio with new music and I'm very excited," she told reporters after a tearful speech onstage at the Air Canada Centre.

Twain added that fans will be able to hear her new music "soon," and that she's documented some of her songwriting process in an upcoming documentary-style TV series about her life.

I advise cautious optimism. This new music might suck. wink
