Gap Band ~ I'm Ready {12" inch version} You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I've got this 12 Inch too. I think a lot of people didn't know it existed. I never heard it on the radio or in any of the skating rinks at the time, I just happened to see the 12 Inch in the record store when it was current and bought it. I see they don't even have it on any of their 12 Inch compilation CDs that came later either. Andy is a four letter word.

I wasn't aware of this version either until years later. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. I used to dig this. This song used to get a little airplay in my area but not as much as Party Train and Jam To The Motha. It's still hard to believe Robert is no longer with us. Just doesn't seem real. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Speaking of "Jam To The Motha", I really don't know if there is a 12 Inch to it or not. I have the 45 which sounds slightly different than the album version and on the B Side, there is the Munchkin Mix which sounds like it might be a part 2 of the song or something.
Late at night, I used to be able to pick up an AM Memphis station called WDIA that would fade in and out during the songs with static (remember, I'm in Jackson which is about 250 miles away from Memphis). Anyway, they used to play a version that sounded like a combination of the 45 version and the Munchkin Mix on the other side. I don't know if it was a 12 Inch or if it was the station making their own version by editing the two together. I know WDIA used to edit songs like "Lady Cab Driver", the 12 Inch of "You Dropped The Bomb" on me, "Play At Your Own Risk", etc. and make them shorter so they may have combined the two versions of "Jam The Motha" to make it longer. I know I've looked all over youtube and the internet though and have not seen a 12 Inch of it. Andy is a four letter word.

There was one. Had a mix called the "party mix", I believe. Funk Is It's Own Reward

Thanks. I knew good and damn well that I had heard one before.
I don't know why when they make these 12 Inch collection CDs, that they don't make the complete collection. I mean, they could have left off "Burn Rubber" and "Humpin" which are the same as the album version and included "I'm Ready" and "Jam The Motha". Andy is a four letter word.
