Where is Fiona Apple?

Seriously, what happened to her?

She's still doing music, just low-key. She's rumored to be releasing a new album this year.

Man her first album was amazing, that girl could sing and wrote some great dark songs that fit the time's in the 90's.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

What about her sophomore album? I loved that one! Some great songs and great production.

She's put out three albums so far : "Tidal" was the first, followed by "When the Pawn...", then "Extraordinary Machine".

My favorite has always been "When the Pawn...", but lyrically she's a beast on all three albums.

If you ever get a chance, check out the original, Jon Brion-produced version of the "Extraordinary Machine" album - the version that got released is pretty different. The Brion version is definitely worth the effort to hunt it down. My favorite version of "Red, Red, Red" is on there - complete with howling and barking wolves/dogs in the background eek . Very over the top and epic, but very cool.

Both versions of Extraordinary Machine are superb. The entire album is flawless. It's one of my alltime favorites. I'm a big Fiona fan regardless, but EM really sends me over the moon.

The released version isn't BAD, but it's very....the word I want to use right now, is 'sanitized', for whatever reason. lol

It's like they watered it down to make it more palatable for mass consumption. I liked it better when "Not About Love" sounded like something the Queen of England would play while she had tea and crumpets with her nose in the air lol , so on and so forth. I read an article about the disc once that used the phrase "vaudevillian spookiness" or something, and that's exactly how the original version is, and I love it for that.

Yeah, I love the original version because of how sparse and fun it sounds. However, I think some songs benefited greatly from reworking ("Oh Sailor" and "Please Please Please" specifically) but I love some originals more than the released ("Red Red Red").

...Oh, see to me "Oh Sailor" is better on the original too. Although the AOL acoustic performance she did, shits all over both of them.

I just couldn't maintain interest after that scandalous (for no reason at all, but I did like the song) first video. I'm sure I've missed a lot. boxed

I think you're talking about the "Criminal" video. Even Fiona didn't really want to do that and kinda got talked into it.

I was impressed by how much her live singing improved from album 1 to album 3. Great lyricist, but like one critic said I'm waiting for her to lash out at the world as opposed to every relationship hiccup that might come along.

Yeah, but that's not every singer's bag.

I've never understood people who expect every single musician to do albums full of songs purely about world issues. lol
