Wait, so if you pre-order from Amazon do they ship it on the release date or before?? I've never pre-ordered before...

Well they're already out and ready to ship now on Hip-O Select.com, but Amazon won't be shipping any copies until the 21st which is next week. I ordered mine from Amazon because I trust them alittle more and I love them. They ship pretty fast too! biggrin

New Dimensions! There are two pictures that I have never seen before; one with T in a 70s rocker persona vein, and another where she is channeling a Charlie Chaplin/Minnie Rippertoin thing - super cute.

Motown messed up pretty bad. The range represented here is not quite found again until Emerald City. I suppose they were catering to an era when you had to have a singular sound rather than something as expansive as Lady Tee. I understand exactly what Smokey was saying about how Rick what got "Teena's ball rolling" as far as putting her material together with more confidence, cohesion and marketability.

I don't care much for Ronnie McNeir's wrinting and production work.

The narrative of the interviews by Harry Weinger - Mickey Boyce, Jill Jones, Ronnie McNeir, Kenny Kerner are interesting and revealing.

She really was too much for her time in many ways. Her aesthetic while all woman, has a certain alpha male quality to it. She was so butch, brave and true...talented and lovely.

Teena's rhytmn guitar skills are on display in the demos in a way that I have never heard before. There are some vocal things that I have also not ever heard before. I need to google Winston Monseque later today; he produced 2 songs that made it into this collection. One of the T oringinals that he produced, White Soul, is hilarious - "... the hippest honkey on the whole western coast." With some lyrical adjustment it could have been a BIG song in 1977.

I'm listening to the 'Lady T' remaster lol the Rick James mix of "Behind The Groove" is fantastic!!! He made it sound more like a Stone City jam with a long saxophone solo, more bass and attitude...it's very funky!!!

I received all three Teena Marie CD's on Wednseday 6/15/11 directly from Hip-O-Select and they are fabulous. The bonus live tracks on IRON IN THE FIRE are from a different perfomance dated 7/31/81 than what was issued on the reissue of IT MUST BE MAGIC CD. Teena nails DeJa Vu' and keeps the format of that very close to the album version on WILD AND PEACEFUL. Teena fans will be very happy with these disc and HIP-O-SELECT you did a wonderful job on the Late Ivory Queen Of Soul catalog...

Considering all the live footage floating around on her on youtube they should be able to put together an awesome DVD on Teena. I just hope the album Teena had just finished before her death does see the light of day on CD. I would think Stax Records own the rights unless Teena only had a one album deal with the label......................

I listened to the first disc in the car today. I dug most of it. Didn't care for the duets, though.

I agree, the duets aren't very good.Ronnie McNeir has an 'okay' voice but Teena outshines him lol
